KING OF THE ROAD

by allelli

Jeepneys are the most common form of public transport throughout the many islands of the Philippines. We call it King of the road, in Manila they are so numerous, they are almost always decorated in bright colors, and with fantasy illustrations the jeepneys don't have air-conditioning. They have open windows. On the side of the jeepneys, the names are written of the two places which are the outer places on the specific (fixed) route of the jeepney Most of the time the jeepneys are constantly-packed with many passengers. Jeepneys offer one of the cheapest ways of transportation. They seldom have a special place to stop. The drivers will slow down enough to enable the passengers to get down. In the countryside the jeepneys offer possibilities to carry all kind of stuff. Passengers are inside the jeepney, but more than once hanging on the back of the jeepney especially during rush hour.

Calesa Ride

by pangelipc

Have you ever ridden a calesa -- its like a horse drawn carriage Filipino style. It is great fun to take kids or go around with friends and family. This is in downtown at the "Gated or Walled City / Intramouros ". Watch out for cars though and pricing changes. I think they gouged us especially when they saw that we took 3 calesas. It was a little after 5pm, near sundown and then they changed the price which they failed to mention -- when we didn't finish till after 6. It was fun examining the area on foot, but better with the ride, since it is quite large. It has a small golf course, sculptures of former Philippine presidents, etc.

By Air, Land Or Sea

by kidfree

In a land of so many islands and covering such a large area travellers needs are met in a variety of ways. While most tourists arrive by, and often prefer to travel by plane and taxi to get from A to B as quickly as possible there is real variation in the types of airplanes or ferries depending on the destination. If time allows then an overnight journey by ferry can be a relaxing and more than comfortable way to travel and often at a real bargain price.Planes too have to be able to suit the destination and can be anything from an eight seater to a twin aisled commercial liner. Travel means are so varied in the Philippines and such variety means that you have the opportunity to meet people whether they be locals or fellow travellers

Bus

by nimato

I would not recommend taking a bus when getting around town (or city). Generally old, city buses are often too crowded and uncomfortable, even the airconditioned ones. Take the jeepney instead. Newer and cozy buses are usually offered by provincial operators like Victory Liner, Philippine Rabbit, Partas, Philtranco, etc.

Tricycle - as popular

by myspices

Besides the jeepneys, tricycle is another popular mode of transport. The tricycle is actually a compartment or cabin attached to the motorcycle. The maximum number of passengers (adult) that it can carry is 3 : one the pillion rider on the motorcycle and two in the compartment or cabin. Tricycles are normally used for short distance travels. You can "flag-down" a tricycle anywhere and you can also stop at any place you wish when riding the tricycle. For short distances, the price is 7.5pesos/pax (about the same price of jeepneys going on short distances). In some provinces, the tricycles are color-coded, meaning, all the tricycles are of the same colour in the same province. I saw these when I was travelling in Northern Luzon (San Fernando - Pampanga).

Fly Over The Islands!

by nimato

Philippine Airlines (www.philippineairlines.com) and Cebu Pacific (www.cebupacificair.com) are the top two domestic carriers, flying to major cities and municipalities. Smaller industry players - Asian Spirit (www.asianspirit.com) and SeaAir (www.flyseair.com) - are the ones with direct flights to smaller islands and destinations.

King of Philippine Roads

by nimato

Found only in the Philippines, the JEEPNEY is the king of the road. They're everywhere in the archipelago, transporting millions of people and goods daily. From plain stainless steel to fiesta-like colorful designs, the jeepney is a reliable mode of transportation in this part of the world. Minimum fare, as of this writing, is P7.50 for the first four kilometers. Additional P0.50 for every kilometer therafter.

Honest Taxi faires from Phil. Intn. Airport, (MNL)

by kzapanta

Don't be afraid of getting ripped off by the taxi driver. There is a fool proof way of getting a cheap, honest taxi rate to anywhere you need to go. Price garanteed.Once you get your luggage and about to start your adventure in the Philippines and hail a taxi or transportation, remember one thing. Do not walk across to the street to the waiting taxis!!The airport has a service to contract reputable, reliable, clean, air-conditioned taxi companies. This service if free for everyone. Go to them to get a ride instead of dealing with and haggling with the individual taxi drivers on the road. Its simple! Walk outside of the baggage claims thru the main glass doors. Immediately turn left walking next to the outside of the building. (DO NOT go straight out to the street.) In about 40 yards, you will see the Taxi Offices door. Its in the middle of the building, ground floor. Enter, tell...
