taxi fares

by mickshe

when taking a cab, always ask the driver to set the meter on,coz most of the times they will give you a price for your destination and the price they ask is way too high ..sometimes double,so dont let them give you a fix price..rely on the meter and if they dont agree..look for another cab.

Typhoons

by mlt_t

are major problem in Luzon and some parts of the Eastern Visayas, such as Sammar and Leyte. Expect constant torrential rain for 3-4 days and major flooding. The golden rule is, if a typhoon is coming, avoid traveling if possible and stay at home. Typhoons in the Philippines tend to come in sequences. If this occurs, forget about driving until the cycle stops.

Beware of wet seasons

by mlt_t

In most parts of the Philippines the wet seasons is officially classed as occurring from July to December. In reality, the rains can start as early as May and finish as early as October. The wet season is a typical monsoon climate pattern. Except heavy showers daily, starting mid-afternoon and ending early evening. This often causes temporary local flooding and subsequent driving hazards, so it is best to plan your journey during this seasons to reach your destination before 3 p.m.

Tuba - is not a musical instrument in Cebu

by whvcebu

Tuba is made by extracting the sap of an unopened coconut bud. It has a stinging sweet and bittersweet taste. The tip of the bud is lopped and the pale juice allowed to trickle into bamboo containers hanging around the top of a coconut tree. A sturdy tree yields up to 2 liters of liquid daily. In certain barrios of Malolos, in Bulacan province, tuberculosis patients are advised to drink or even bathe in tuba as a cure. Nursing babies in Bantayan, Cebu is fed with this beverage. (Would not suggest) Tuba when distilled produces a 96 proof "Lambanog." It is said that only tough men can withstand the effect of Tuba that affects men's senses and sanity. Filipinos consider Tuba as a type of hard drink. To ferment, the sweetish liquid is stored for one to three days in earthen jars or bottles in modern times. The rust tint of tuba is acquired through the addition of powdered bark called tangal....

about the tourist kidnappings

by TRAVELCHICK29

Although we can't ignore the news about the tourist kidnappings, the media makes it look like almost all the tourists there gets kidnapped. Use your judgement, do some research and check with your embassy. and use caution and common sense at all times. Don't quote me on this but it seems like most kidnappings happen in the Southern regions, the other areas are relatively safe.

be careful of what you eat and drink

by TRAVELCHICK29

make sure you only drink from bottled water and don't buy any popsicles from street vendors even though they are wrapped. I'm saying this from experience. bring some anti-diarrheal medicine with you. Food from restaurants and shopping mall food courts are usually safe but drink bottled water

Way of driving!

by kylian74

Driving in Manila is rather worst! I mean it's more to be no rules to follow with those undeciplined drivers...don't be surprised if you've been cut off for unnecessary reason...Intersections without traffic light is a first come first to go basis. Traffic can be like a carnaval with all the mixed noise of cars, vehicles and public.

Karaoke

by bobbert

Karaoke is popular all throughout East Asia. Specific differences between countries do exist, however. Whereas karaoke normally entails the kind of drunken brotherhood of people, none of whom can sing, karaoke with Filipino's is different. The friendliness is there, as is the drink, but the problem is, Filipinos can sing. It seems almost a national talent. They do not even seem to have to make an effort. It is just unfair.

Manila-- Make sure you keep an eye!

by msison

Filipinos as a whole are very friendly. Remember the Philippines is made up of two classes- poor and rich. Though Filipinos are very friendly and love to share anything about their country just be careful in high traffic areas where you will be spotted as a tourist. Avoid wearing things that will be a sure sign that you are. Best to keep a low profile--including screaming in stores or other places besides parties and gatherings with friends. Make sure you only carry enough money for the day and rest keep in your hotel safe. Exchange money in the banks or hotels.
