STA CRUZ ISLAND

If you have time, visit this almost deserted (due to security threats maybe) island with crushed pink corals making it glow pinkish from afar. Pass by the Department of Tourism office near the Lantaka Hotel to register as they will provide you with security escorts. We were told that it is now a standard procedure to give security escorts to tourist to avoid untoward incidents like kidnapping. It is better to play it safe though. Just give a little token to the security escort (mostly likely 2) at the end of your visit to the island.

ARMM Satellite Office

The Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) satellite office is located in Barangay Cabatangan at an elevated ground giving a wide panoramic view of the city center and the coastline. Ironically, Zamboanga City is not a part of ARMM. The big mosque dome and other architectural designsof the building define it as a Muslim building. This was the ARMM office until the short-lived revolt of former ARMM Governor Nur Misuari and is now presently the headquarters of the Phil. Marines. Permission in taking pictures here should be approved by the stationed Marine guards.

You can travel from Zamboanga City to Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia by plane.To Sandakan you can take a boat as well.In Sepolok next to Sandakan you can visit the world's largestOrang -Utan Sanctuary and do some Jungle Tours as well.Zamboanga City is also the Gateway to famous Dakak Beach Park in Zamboanga del Norte.
