The geography of Singapore

Seen from our Euro-centered perspective, Singapore looks like a tiny spot on the tip of the Malay peninsula, but actually it is a relatively large island. With an area of roughly 700 km², it is about the same size as Minorca. A large part of its territory has been claimed to the sea. In terms of population, Singapore is well beyond the average European micro-state: with its almost 4,500.000 inhabitants, it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world (as it has almost as many inhabitants as Croatia and a few more than the Republic of Ireland).
