Catching a performance at the Esplanade

by cheapskate

If you have the time and the money to spare.. catch a concert in the Esplanade...Depending on who is performing.. the prices changes from around S$10 to sometimes more than S$300!But whether u pay $10 or $500 for the ticket... NEVER.. and i repeat.. N E V E R.. NEVER EVER be late..Not exactly the most handicap friendly place...and if your seats are circle 2 and above.. be expecting to climb some stairs...NOT so glam if you're all dolled up for the evening.. but you're running for your life to make it on time...Believe me.. all performances start on the dot... and i've ran for my life too... not fun to finally reach there and be panting from exhaustion! hahahaThey are very strict regarding punctuality.. They will only let you in during intervals if there are any. I really like the main lobby of the Esplanade.. because they always put up different arty things that i -one of the most...

Speak Singapore English - Singlish

by ahcoln

Though English is widely spoken in Singapore, many first-time visitors have been confounded by the colloquialisms that pepper Singaporeans' speech. Through the years, Singaporeans have developed their own brand of English fondly referred to as 'Singlish'. 'Singlish' borrows from the many different languages spoken in Singapore. Here's a collection of 'Singlish' terms which you might find handy on your visit to Singapore. Blur (adj)Derived from the English language meaning does not know what is going on.Example: He hasn't read up on the background to this project and was very blur at the meeting. Chim (adj)Pronounced 'cheem'.Derived from the Hokkien dialect meaning profound.Example: The professor's lecture was very chim. Kayu (adj)Pronounced 'kah-yoo'.Derived from the Malay language meaning dumb or stupid.Example: How come he is so kayu? Teach him so many times and he still cannot do it....

Singapore Weather Info

by ahcoln

The climate of Singapore can be divided into two main seasons, the Northeast Monsoon (December to early March) and the Southwest Monsoon season (June to September), separated by two relatively short inter-monsoon periods. (These seasons are usually found in more academic contexts and are not generally familiar to laypeople in Singapore.) During the Northeast Monsoon season, northeast winds prevail, sometimes reaching 20 km/h. Cloudy conditions in December and January with frequent afternoon showers. Spells of widespread moderate to heavy rain occur lasting from 1 to 3 days at a stretch. Relatively drier in February till early March. Also generally windy with wind speeds sometimes reaching 30 to 40 km/h in the months of January and February. During the Southeast Monsoon season, southeast/southwest winds prevail. Isolated to scattered showers occur in the late morning and early afternoon....

Lots of great sightseeing to be done in Singapore if you're into city tours & nightlife & shopping... it's most certainly not a destination if you're looking for a lazy beach holiday. My Favourite Things To Do In Singapore:1. Holland Village - where the expats hang out in many different bars and cafes5. Boat Quay - lots of food and restaurants and bars and cafes6. The Esplanade & The Merlion - Great concerts and musicals and performances are shown every month with some big names from all over the world. 7. Little India, Chinatown, Arab Street... typical hotspots for arts and...

Monsoons: The Raining Seasons

by xuessium

The Northeast Monsoon brings rain to Singapore between November and February but the wettest month tend to be December. The Southwest Monsoon brings rain between July and September but this is a weaker monsoon so rain volume tends to be much lower than its Northeastern counterpart. Even during monsoon seasons, it does not rain everyday. The bad thing is that thunderstorms, if they roll in, can really wash out your plans but it also means that the temperature will drop to a more tolerable 30C or lower in the day.

Money

by Ewingjr98

Money s Singapore is called the Dollar. It is easy to acquire at ATMs throughout the city. Most credit cards are widely accepted. Food can run as low as a few dollars for a quick meal on the street to over S$100 per person at a fancy restaurant such as the one we tried on Orchard Road. Our hotel, the Metropole, was on the low end at S$75 per night for double occupancy. Expensive hotels, such as the Raffles (right next door to Metropole), start at S$650 per night!!!
