If you look high up in the oldest trees, you will noticed some sets of wind chimes have been fetched there. I could discover only two sets but it is said there are more.
I thought these were just part of the Theraphy purpose, but actually no one seems to know who (or what?) fixed them there at such peculiar spots, and why??
Partly based on the chimes mystery, Paranormal investigators have listed the Kampong Java Park as one of those "haunted" places. They convey whether not all bodies have been cleared during the conversion from cemetary to the Pond. Or whether souls of Hospital deaths still wander around the Park at night.
Some people have heard whispering and unusual sounds at night in the Park, and several children reputedly have drowned here (the pond is dangerously overgrown in some areas!).
Anyway, in daytime the Park is beautiful and peaceful and you shouldn't have to worry about these things...

The Park is basically the public back garden of the KK Hospital and consistis of a lily pond surrounded by old trees as well as Singaporean preciously manicured bush. You can circumnavigate the whole pond (and park) in about 15 minutes on leisure using a wheelchair friendly path.
It is more crowded on Sundays, but still with an abundance of benches on scenic spots available around the pond.

The Park has been adopted by the Hospital in the early 70's, and converted from an old Jewish cemetary - some say 19th century - to provide patients a peaceful outlook and hopefully a contibution to their healing processes.
The design of the park and its flora has been adapted to that purpose. Benches have been placed thoughtfully and there are even foot reflexology paths!
And it worked out quite well; I had sort of a headache when I visited the Park, but it was over after I spent here an hour or so!

From the serene Western Kampong Java park part, you can enjoy stunning views over the Pond against the amazing backdrop of the Hospital.
The building was newly constructed in the 90's only, but the design is unique enough to keep you gazing at it for a while! There are several good viewpoints in the Park from where you can do so.

The Western part of the Park offers some slightly secluded areas and the most rustic spots to "get away from it all". Nasty small ants have found out as well, so better don't sit on the grass unprotected!
As almost everywhere in the "Garden City", architects and gardeners have done a great job offering a varied selection of exciting plants and bushes amidst century old trees. One of the highlights is the presence of the Brazilian Red Cloak. Who would expect that here at the Heart of Singapore!

Kampong Java Park: not "just" a park

I learned about the existence of Kampong Java Park only from the VT database being a location "near" my appartment. It was however not shown on the Central Singapore Tourist Maps I own. When I dropped...
