The Kampung Ubi area of Singapore is a hub for selling vehicles. You will see many car showrooms here e.g. Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Renault etc as well as second-hand car dealers (the other area in Singapore selling lots of cars are in Leng Kee Road, somewhere in the central part of Singapore). There is also a car driving learning centre here, as well as a famous Buddhist primary school called Maha Bodhi Primary School. In order to reach Kampung Ubi, take the MRT sub-way to Eunos station, followed by taking buses no. 51 or 854 towards the north direction (about 3-4 bus stops away).

Sims Drive is a small residential estate located off Geylang Lorong 19, and you can reach here easily by taking the MRT sub-way and alighting at Aljunied MRT station. I am currently staying at one of the residential housing flats at Sims Drive, which has a hawker food centre which sells many delicious local food. This place is worth a visit if you have sometime to spend in Singapore, and want to experience life in the suburb areas (actually Sims Drive is quite near to the city area).

The Malay Village is located at the heart of Geylang and is worth visiting although there is nothing much here. However, the surrounding areas should be explored as there are many things to do and see here e.g. Haig Road Hwaker Centre, Joo Chiat area, Tanjong Katong Complex, Post Office Building, City Plaza shopping centre etc.

This building used to house the Eastern Aerated Water company, which made soft drinks in Singapore years ago before the times of Pepsi and Coke. This historical building is located at the junction of Geylang Road and Aljunied Road.

There is a stretch along Sims Avenue, near to Lorong 17 and Lorong 15, where there are many fruit stores selling tropical fruits such as durians, papaya, water melon, mangoes, banana etc. This place is especially crowded at night and during the weekends, where the locals come here to buy the fruits, which are cheap and tasty.

Durians are big, round and spiky fruits on the outside, and the fruit inside is considered delicious by the people around the south east asia region, giving it the name "king of fruits". Geylang is very famous for its durian stores lining the street of Sims Avenue, near to Lorong 17 and Lorong 15 Geylang. Other than durians, there are many other tropical fruits on sale here e.g. mangosteen, papaya, water melon etc.

The Geylang Serai area is the heartland of the Malay people of Singapore, and is very crowded and exciting 1-2 weeks before the Hari Raya Puasa (the new year of the Malays). If you happen to be in Singapore during this period, this is a must to visit to experience the real Singapore. To go to Geylang Serai, take the MRT metro system and alight at the Paya Lebar station. I just went there on 13 Nov 2004, the eve of Hari Raya Puasa of year 2004, and took some photographs. The photographs are at the travelogue section for your viewing.
