Go fishing on a man-made lagoon.

by Dreks

If you are a fishing enthusiast or just a plain curious neophyte, you can try catching fish at Pasir Ris Town fish pond. The fishes are easier to catch and looks so hungry to eat your bait. Try the comfort of fishing and savor the fun and excitement of catching a fish yourself! The park is also good for cycling, jogging, skating and picnic.(Please visit my travelogue "Fishers' of Men" for a wonderful experience i am proud to share with you all.)

By-the-sea Dining @ Pasir Ris Park

by Dreks

A coastal park condusive for romantic seafood dining by the sea. The one in the picture was taken at Fisherman's Village along Pasir Ris road. Like in many other parks, it also offers alternative activities such as camping, cycling, trekking, kite flying, swimming, roller blading, barbecuing, etc.

The Riau Archipelago

by traveldave

This tip is about an attraction that is technically not in Singapore, but is an interesting thing to experience nonetheless. The Riau Archipelago is a group of small Indonesian islands that are just across the Strait of Malacca from Singapore. Frequent ferry service provides access to several of the islands, including Bantam, Bintan, Tanjung Balai, and Tanjung Batu. Although there are not many attractions that would interest many travelers, other than small villages and beaches, a day trip to rural Indonesia provides a stark contrast to prosperous and cosmopolitan Singapore.

Malabar Mosque

by Willettsworld

The Malabar Mosque, officially Malabar Muslim Jama-Ath Mosque, is the only Malabar Muslim mosque in Singapore. In 1927, the Malabar Muslims, who originate from the southern state of Kerala in India, formed the Malabar Muslim Jama'ath, an association to look after the matters of their community, made up of mostly textile and jewellery merchants. On 10 April 1956, the foundation stone of this mosque was laid. On 24 January 1963, Malabar Mosque was declared open by the Yang di-Pertuan Negara, Yusof Ishak. The main prayer hall is elevated by one storey with the steps leading to it oriented towards Mecca. Surrounding the main prayer hall are two-storey open-air galleries.Cnr of Victoria Street and Jalan Sultan

A Great Island to Explore - Pulau Ubin

by sysy97

After a trip to Pulau Ubin with a group of friends, we found that Pulau Ubin is an excellent place for everyone to enjoy nature. Pulau Ubin is the only place untouched by urbanisation in Singapore. Till now it is still relying on well water and a home generator for electricity supply. The air is always fresh as there is practically no vehicles except for the few ‘’taxis’’ which drive the tourist to their destination. Pulau Ubin being the last "Kampong" in Singapore , will definitely attract many nature lovers there. During a school project, we chose Pulau Ubin as our project and thus continued our research and came out with a website and created a brochure. Our brochure includes an itinerary for visitors who do not have time to plan for their trip there. Our website has pictures of all the places of interest in Pulau Ubin. We have also included a guide on how to move around there and a...

Get away to Kusu Island

by Fudge

Also known as Tortoise Island, Kusu has mythical and religious significance to Singaporeans. During the 9th lunar month, throngs of Singaporeans (chinese, malay or indian) make their way to two significant places - a chinese temple and a muslim shrine mainly to pay respects and also to pray for good health, wealth and fortune. Legend has it that whoever has asked sincerely there, gets their wishes granted!

Wild Elephant Sighting in Singapore

by bpacker

Don't bother rubbing your eyes, you read me correctly. Wild, Asian Elephants have been spotted in Singapore, well, in offshore Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong to be more exact. Now if you're thinking I'm telling you a 1930's esque story, I'm not. This happened in 1990! To read more about it, pop over to my Pulau Ubin page.

Heritage Tree, Tembusu (Fragraea fragrans)!

by kelnsha

Perhaps the best-known tree in Singapore as it is featured on the $5 note. It probably stood here before the Botanic Gardens was first laid out in 1859.Tembusu is native to Singapore. This very hard-wooded tree thrives even on very poor soils. If left unpruned, the trees often develop large low branches with upswept ends. Tembusu bears creamy fragrant flowers that attract moths in the evening. The fruits are small orange berries.

Star Virgo Cruise Boat - Vivo City

by Mikebb

We went to Vivo City shopping centre during the weekend and it is an extremely large and modern shopping centre. The crowds were horrific and we eventually made our way through an exit to the harbour front. What relief! The harbour front is nicely done and a few hundred metres away Star Virgo cruise boat was dockside. A nice looking boat but appeared to be much smaller than other boats I had seen. The larger cruise boats were not to be seen and I was told they dock elsewhere in the harbour.

Night Safari - See the Animals At Night.

by Mikebb

This is a very popular theme park style zoo which transports visitors on a tramcar through the park. You will see most of the African animals and others, some as close as 30 metres as you wind your way through the park. There are also paths you can walk sections of the park, or if you prefer you can take the tramcar for a sector and then they offer you the opportunity to walk the remainder. The idea of the Night Safari is excellent, however I prefer to go at my own pace, my wife loved the tramcar idea as she did not appreciate the Singapore heat. When you have finished your tramcar safari there is still much to see and do, such as dinner at one of the many restaurants/ fast food outlets, shops and entertainment. We took a tour package, hotel pickup at 6:30pm, entrance, tramcar ride and return coach ride to our hotel. Home by 11pm. You can also use public transport to travel to the park.No...
