Pulau Tekong Things to Do

Although the army life on Pulau Tekong was generally tough, there were times of fun and recreation too in order to raise the morale of the soldiers. These times were cherished by all, including myself.

The army camps at Pulau Tekong used for BMT training used to be very basic. However recently, the army has build a modernised army camp on the island to keep up with the times. Well, the armu recruits now are luckier than me during my time in 1989 :)

Life in the army camp in Pulau Tekong was basic, where all the people in one platoon stay in one big room. During some of the weekends, we were allowed back to civilsation over the weekends. People have to learn how to live with each other, and to help each other in order to survive this BMT period on Pulau Tekong.

For the guys who went to BMT army training at Pulau Tekong, it was a start of something which would change their life forever. From a student studying in school, we are suddenly converted to soldiers and this was a very drastic experience for many people. There was sweat, hardship which we have never experienced before. Nevertheless, comradeship was forged through going through thick and thin together. Looking back, it was a good experience which made me a stronger person and helped me to grow up.
