by bpacker There's about 4 or 5 bike shops littered around the jetty around so choosing a bike shouldn't be a problem. Just remember to bring some kind of identification of yourself for the rental. And check .... 1)the suspension of course - Trust me, it is no fun wobbling your cellulite on those rocky trails. 2) the brakes..I nearly killed a wild boar once when my brakes failed me. Luckily for the pig, i swerved and ended in a ditch instead. Now, that's what I call bad luck with a road hog. Cost $5-$6 for half a day's usage. Leave a Comment

Ubin Quarry by bpacker And off you go on your bike, along the way, you'll discover hidden gems like this disused quiet quarry over here. It makes such a pretty picture that you can almost imagine a swordsman appearing out of nowhere to skim over the waters to the beat of some Chinese drums.. Ok, so much for rustic... by bpacker Upon reaching the island, you'll find an info kiosk not too far from the jetty. Approach those officers there for a map of Pulau Ubin or sign up for one of their cool guided tours (free, every 4th Sunday of the month) Of course, if you're bloody *** like me, you can always print out a map before you go. Click on the link and print. Leave a Comment

by bpacker As you look at the map, you'll find out that there's little private beaches to explore and nooks and crannies ideal for roughing it out a mountain bike. So what is the next thing you do? Search for a bike rental shop of course... Click here here for a map of Pulau Ubin. Leave a Comment

Hoppin' into P Ubin Jetty by bpacker Pulau Ubin is so rustic that the only way to get there is via a bum boat ride that is gauranteed to give your cellulite a good workout. Yup, most of these boatman think nothing about riding the waves like a cowboy so brace yourself for a bumpy ride to Pulau Ubin. To find all of em' water cowboys, go to Changi Jetty. You'll find lots of boats moored there. Holler to a willing chap. If luck is on your side, there'll be a waiting boat there, close to the steps. If not, you'll need to hop from one boat to another to reach it. Some dexterity is needed here but you don't need to be Spiderman. I've seen grannies leaping effortlessly sometimes. The ride cost a rustic S$2 per way and there are no fixed times for departure. Those water cowboys leave only when there are enough passengers in his boat. Yee-ha... Leave a Comment

Kekek Quarry by icyjo24 After visiting the Ubin Quarry, continue cycling til you see two different paths. Take the path on the right, Jalan Wat Siam and continue cycling to the end of the path. There a fence that has been partially torn down by some trespassers probably. You can 'sneak' into this quarry from the opening and have some nice views of the Kekek Quarry. This is the smallest quarry of Pulau Ubin. Refrain from swimming in any quarry. The water is misleadingly calm. It is dangerous as the water is deep.. what i heard was it was as deep as the length of a few soccer fields!!! Leave a Comment

Old Public Telephone Booth by icyjo24 This telephone booth is found near the jetty. I believed this is the last of such a booth in Singapore. In the 1970s and early 1980s, this kind of public telephone booths is common around the main island but the design of the booth has been changed sometime in the late 1980s. Leave a Comment

View from Bukit Puaka by imstress Bukit Puaka is the tallest point on Ubin. At 74m tall, it overlooks the Ubin Granite Quarry with scenic views of Singapore and Malaysia. The entrance to the trail up the hill is not marked so as to discourage visitors to the narrow and steep trail. There are 4 stations along the trail, each with a different view of the quarry and surrounding areas. Leave a Comment

Chinese Opera Stage by imstress The Wayang Stage at the centre of Ubin Town has had a colourful history. The stage is sometimes used to house large dinners in Ubin Town and is the focus of other major events on the island. The Wayang Stage comes alive in the Seventh Lunar Month or Hungry Ghost Festival. Wayang or Chinese opera performances are held, with empty seats left at the front for the dead spirits. This is not a special performance put up for the public, but a part of the way of life of the residents of Ubin. Leave a Comment
