The information kiosk is approximately a minute walk from Pulau Ubin jetty where the bumboats dock. Call or visit them to enquire about guided tours out to Chek Jawa. Pick up a free leaflet with a map of the island showing the main walking and cycling trails.

Walk along the coastal boardwalk to see wide array of marine wildlife – starfish, sea horses and octopi living in the sand and mud flats, carpet and peacock anemones in the sea-grass meadows, and sponges of all hues residing in the coral rubble. It's better to go during low tides.

There are 2 beaches on the northern shore of Pulau Ubin. One of them is Mamam beach. We usually will stop here for a rest or toilet break during our journey. Mamam Beach was reinforced by a seawall and ringed by wooden railing after it was threatened with serious soil erosion in 1999. There are benches, tables for resting and a toilet nearby. You can view mangroves plantation from here.

Personally, I feel that the beach is not what that has been claimed in those guidebooks. "white sandy beaches "?? I could only see lots of litter in the water and I don't think I would want to camp here.

On my recent trip to Pulau Ubin with my 4 children we rent bicycles to tour Pulau Ubin. There are numerous rental shops near the jetty itself. I thought the cycling trail would be a leisurely ones but it becomes apparent that this is an island full of uphills and downhills.I found out that I was not fit after all as I was out of breath and nearly had an asthmatic attack. And also please ensure you bring enough drink water as the shops are far in between. As the cycling trails are also the main road on this island , be aware of occassional vans or taxi passing by. My daughter had a fright when an unknown animal scuttle in front of her path. Her bicycle chain came loose and I had to dirty by hand trying to put it back in the ridges. But we enjoy ourself

I am yet to visit Chek Jawa. I've heard of its remarkable collection of marine wild life. The ecosystem found on this small area cannot be found anywhere else in singapore and fast dissapearing in other parts of the world. In 2002 the land was up for reclamation but the abundance of marine life form found here managed to stop the reclamation of this land. It was deffered 10years. Well I still have 6years plus to visit it. I've seen pictures of the site and i'm awed . We could join the free guided walk

If you are landing or taking off on an airplane at Changi Airport on a clear, you may be able to see Pulau Ubin from the air, which was what I managed to do in March 2006. This island is located along the Straits of Johor, in between Singapore island and the State of Johor, Malaysia. If you have a chance to have a good view from your plane, then Pulau Ubin would look like the photographs shown here :)

Indulge and soak yourself in the last rays of the sun. Sit on the little wooden bench overlooking the beach and watch the sun sink slowly. Alhough pulau ubin's beach is nothing like the most beautiful beach in the world, but it is charming in it's own way. Watching the bumboats pass and the airplanes touching down singapore mainland and mudskippers skip on the beach can be just pretty nice too.

Mamam Beach lies on the north coast of Pulau Ubin, about 3km north-east of the jetty and the main town and about 1km east of Noordin Beach.
The beach can be reached on foot or by bicycle without leaving the main paved road (this is the route that I walked along), but there is also a short-cut by leaving the main road and following a dirt track (a left turn off Jalan Ubin before you reach Murai Hut).
As with Noordin Beach, the beach is untidy and the sea is murky and sunbathing or swimming there are not very appealing (despite the guidebook suggesting these as activities to enjoy there). In fact, parts of the water are fenced off with warning signs telling people not to enter.
There are no huts at Mamam Beach at which to enjoy a picnic, but there are toilets close to the beach.
When I visited the beach there were a large number of men camping at one end of the beach - probably from the neighbouring National Police Cadet Corps Campsite.
There were also an inordinate number of hornets buzzing around all over the sand. Hardly a tropical paradise!

Noordin Beach lies on the north coast of Pulau Ubin, about 3km from the jetty and the main town.
It can be reached on foot or by bicycle without having to leave the main paved road on the island.
The guidebook states that it is a nice place for sunbathing, swimming or having a picnic, but in truth the beach is dirty and litter-strewn and the sea is murky. I certainly wasn't tempted to go swimming there.
If you're going there for a picnic you'd be better off eating in one of the huts near the beach - there are two to choose from: Kedidi Hut and Chamar Hut.
