Da Dong by Fatty Weng: A famous restaurant

by colin_bramso

Fatty's Restaurant is world-famous, and this is a great experience right in the heart of Chinatown. It's in an historic old building, the bustle and atmosphere of old Chinatown is all around, the food and service is top quality. You have a choice of a more casual area on the ground floor or slightly more upmarket on the first floor. It's a very popular restaurant so booking ahead is advisable. We like to have a variety of flavours & textures with our food, so with Chinese cuisine we like Dim Sum, and that's top quality here.We were disappointed with one of our other favourites here, the Peking Duck, which wasn't up to standard. Maybe we were just unlucky on the day.

Thanying Restaurant: Royal Thai Cuisine

by colin_bramso

Stylish, more expensive Thai restaurant in a hotel. Dress up or smart casual. Great service, atmosphere, food. It's best to book your table. The dessert buffet is special. Lots of Thai specialities, beautifully presented. The best is taco (not the Mexican variety, these are little cold coconut cream-on-jelly desserts).

Jim Thompson Restaurant: Thai food in a park setting

by colin_bramso

One of Thailand's most famous names, Jim Thompson, has expanded with a restaurant in a beautiful area of Singapore.Tanglin Village was originally a plantation, became an army camp and now is being transformed into an arts, antiques and food district set in parkland. The restaurant decor, as you would expect from Jim Thompson, is fabulous.Unfortunately the food was a disappointment - good but not as good as several other Thai restaurants we've tried in Singapore. In spite of that the atmosphere, the service and the decor made it an enjoyable lunchtime.

“SIZZLING ROCK”: FLAMING CRAP

by DAO

Hello there my fellow eaters. Let’s get the legals out of the way so VT does not get sued in court. The following is my informed opinion. I am still traumatised years later by this place. I love restaurants that cook on stones. They bring you quality raw meat and a super heated volcanic stone that sits on a wooden base on your table. You cook the meat to your desired tenderness and then dipped into delicious sauces. Sounds good doesn’t it? Well the Sizzling Rock not only screwed that up, they made it much worse with the starter. I sat down anticipating a great meal. They managed to get off to a bad start when I saw their dirty toilets after I ordered. My starter - The “Rock” House Special – promised “A combination of crisp calamari, mozzarella croquettes and soft shell crab served with home-made tartare and BBQ sauce”. All of it was deep fried beyond visual recognition and just tasted...

Thohirah Restaurant: A good place for Indian supper!-24 hrs Roti Prata

by kelnsha

This is one of the prata shops at Jalan Kayu. A decent place for a decent piece of prata but not exactly one that I will go unless I am on the way. It is quite out of the way unless one lives nearby around Jalan Kayu, Yio Chu Kang or Sengkang East areas. My favourite dish is their plain prata because I like to eat prata and this is one of the places to eat prata at the wee hours.

Aglio Olio: Great food at cheap prices!

by sanukseeker

Located near Tanjong Pagar Mrt Station, this place was the perfect setting for an intimate chat-cum-dinner. During our dinner, which lasted around 1.5 hours, we were the ONLY customers there and could talk and chuckle as loud as we wished. was a pleasant surprise to be able to chill out in such an upmarket restaurant.Fret not, for the lack of customers was not due to shabby standards in the food served. For first-timers, perhaps the dinner special would be a good start, for it comprises cream of mushroom soup, chicken wings, garlic bread, 2 pastas or pizzas and 2 glasses of lemonade. All for a too-good-to-be-true price of S$36! One can decide how spicy he wants his pasta to be from 4 grades of spiciness. Such thoughtfulness for customers. Erm, not being very adventurous, we stuck with "normal". In any case, i really wonder how the restaurant owners are able to make a buck.Despite our...

Sakura: One of the best buffet in Singapore

by muratkorman

Sakura has 8 outlets in Singapore. The central one is located on Orchard road and it is one of the 4 halal buffet outlets amongst the 8. You pay at the entrance and waitresses take you upstairs to your table. It is a very satisfactory buffet with a large sushi section and raw fish, many seafood options, salads, grills, dumplings and side dishes, ice cream, desserts and fruits. Soft drinks are also included in the price. Unfortunately, no alcoholic beverages are available. This place is perfect for group celebrations as there is plenty of options for everyone and for every taste. If you are a large group, it is better to make a reservation as Sakura outlets are always crowded due to reasonable buffet prices. Sushi section and grill section

Modesto's: Great Pizzas and Pasta

by globetrotter12345

Modesto's is situated on Orchard Road, giving it a lively buzz at night time. Many prefer to eat outside, although indoor seating is available. Good service, too. The food is to die for, and comes fairly quickly. Their famous 20/22 inch pizza is scummy, as well as their wide range of pasta dishes. Ice cream there is lovely as well, overall a pleasant experience. Penne Bolognese- just the right amount. Pasta cooked al dante, quite tough but nice all the same.

Movenpick Marche: Choose your food and see it cooked

by TravellerUK

Very popular with the locals, great food and an experience. Watch how the locals pack (pile) their vegetables on a plate prior to having them cooked. You choose from fresh ingredients and watch your meal being prepared the way you want it, right in front of you. Extensive menu offering European and Asian favourites. Freshly baked breads, crisp salads, mouth-watering pizzas, freshly-made pasta, varieties of grilled seafood and meats, scrumptious desserts, freshly squeezed fruit juices. Everything. For dessert their Apple Strudle was fab.
