Far East Plaza: Far East Plaza

by Cathy&Gary

Many years ago this use to be another of our favourite centres. Either its changed a lot or I'm getting old but it seems more suited to the younger crowd.Gary had a tattoo done here 12 years ago at Johnny Two Thumbs. This busy shopping centre sells everything from the most fashionable and outrageous shoes and clothes, to precious gems, eyewear and CDs.Make sure you check out Level One, which has many shops selling street fashion, unique accessories and knick knacks!

Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade: Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade

by Cathy&Gary

The shops here are very beautiful and some are very expensive!! We actually have a lovely gold tiger that was bought here for us as a present about 20 years ago!!!The shops are spread over 2 levels and in the Raffles gift shop you will find reasonably priced items such as yard glasses, china, pre mixed Singapore Slings, chocolates and wallets etc. This is a lovely shop for souvenirs. There are also very exclusive watchmakers, art galleries, fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton. Jim Thompson a Thai Silk legend is also in the Raffles Arcade. So if your popping in for a Singapore Sling make sure you have a look at these beautiful quaint shops as well!

Bugis Street & Bugis Junction: Bugis Street & Bugis Junction

by Cathy&Gary

Bugis Street This area has changed a lot since our first visit many years ago, the little place where I use to have Chilli Crab or Buttered Prawns has gone. To me the food stalls there are not as good as they use to be. But it is still definately worth a visit.Previously a seedy night spot, Bugis Village has undergone a huge change. It is now highly urbanised and sophisticated, with restored shop houses and shopping complexes. Care has been taken to preserve hints of this area's old world charm.Don't miss the 'pasar malam' (night market) it is massive with over 650 shops and stalls selling everything you can think of including copy handbags, watches, clothing and much more.Opposite Parco Bugis Junction areaNearest MRT station: Bugis (EW12) Parco Bugis JunctionThis is a great shopping area to cool off in as the two streets are enclosed in glass and air conditioned!!There are lots of...

Mustafa Centre (Little India): Mustafa Centre (Little India)

by Cathy&Gary

No visit to Little India would be complete without seeing the Mustafa Centre. The Mustafa Centre in Little India is open for shopping 24hrs a day. Its a huge absolutely packed department store where you will find lots of bargains if you can stay in there long enough! You virtually have to fight your way down the smallest aisles I have ever seen, so I have to say its not one of my favourite places to shop.As you step into Little India, be prepared for a fantastic smell of spices and flowers.Every shop is a treasure trove of silverware, brassware, jewellery, jasmine garlands and silk saris. The best time to visit Little India is early morning when you can enjoy the spicy aromas, the music, and the colourful flower garlands being made.My favorite shoe shop is also in Little India. The shop is called Toopalee Fashions and they are on Serangoon Rd. This little shop is fantastic as their shoes...

Chinatown Shopping & Markets: Chinatown Shopping & Markets

by Cathy&Gary

The Chinatown Night Markets are Singapore's newest and largest night markets. They stretch from Pagoda St to Sago St, with loads of stalls selling everything you could ever imagine, clothes, trinkets, souvenirs, movies, food etc. You just never know what you will come across. There are also quite a few little fixed price shops where you can buy 3 items for $10. So these shops are good for your souvenir T Shirts etc. Singapore's Chinatown is a very lively vibrant area, there are fortune tellers, medicine salesmen, buskers and food & drink hawkers.Besides markets there are many interesting shopping centers such as the Chinatown Complex. This 3 story building on Sago Lane has over 800 stalls where you can find many bargains plus lots of food stalls. Have a look at Peoples Park, loads more shopping here and plenty of beautiful gold shops and make sure you try the lovely fresh fruits....

Cold Storage / NTUC Fairprice / Shop N Save: 24-Hour Supermarkets

by ZENDER

This is a GENERAL TIP for those insomniacs who cannot sleep in the Lion City.Other than the usual 24-hour convenience stores of 7-Eleven and Cheers, there are other options available now for night-shopping.Cold Storage - at Katong Mall and Holland Village - this outlet is more happening.Jason's at Claymore Drive - not surprising because it is near Orchard Road.NTUC Fairprice - three locations: 1. Hypermart at Jurong Point (in the west), 2. Clementi Central (near Southwest) and 3. Compassvale Link (in the northeast of Singapore).Shop N Save - at about 10 locations: 1. Bedok Market Place 2. Ang Mo Kio Blk 525 & Blk 340, 3. Hougang Plaza, 4. Ghim Moh Blk 21 5. Admiralty MRT Station 6. Tampines Central 7. Bangkit Road Blk 256 8. Pasir Ris Blk 440 9. Yishun Blk 102 & Blk 293 and 10. Woodlands North Plaza Food and drinks

Sembawang Shopping Centre: New but yet the same

by SengQuee

Re-opened in December 2008 after a complete renovation, the folks around Woodlands-Sembawang-Yishun have yet another hang-out place to go. Much to my disappointment, this "new" shopping centre has nothing refreshing to offer.Restaurants, kopitiam, Giant, accessories shops... all already available in the nearby malls (Sun Plaza, Causeway Point, North Point). The only probable interesting outlet is Daiso I guess, offering large variety of cost-effective products...The only thing which caught my eyes was the changing ceiling lights! Look-up and get mesmerised! Hahaa...

BUGIS STREET

by ancient_traveler

The original Bugis Street is now a cobblestoned, relatively wide avenue sandwiched between the buildings of Bugis Junction. Midway through its length is the new entity of Bugis Square, a granite-tiled plaza containing a dancing fountain and surrounded by the food, shopping and entertainment outlets of the Bugis Junction complex on all sides.New Bugis Street, the latter having been created after the whole area was redeveloped in the mid-1980s. The new 'Bugis Street' is a maze of lanes lined with stalls selling pasar malam goods. It stretches from its entrance along Victoria Street facing the original Bugis Street and Bugis Junction to its other entrance along Queen Street facing the entrance to Albert Street.New Bugis Street "the largest street-shopping location in Singapore".

SIM LIM shopping centre: Computer paradise! SIM LIM

by yozza2005

This really is computer paradise. I was advised by a guy I met in New Zealand to go here when I hit Singapore.I jumped in a taxi on the famous Orchard Road and off I went. (Cheap taxi ride)I was greated by a huge shopping centre. (Great great 'cheap' traditional food on the ground floor)So after a quick meal, i started walking the floors of this great electronic and computer paradise. So many shops selling any computer part/accessory/main frame/ and anything computer or electronics related.REMEMBER TO BARGAIN! You'll earn their respect by bartering hard, and you'll get yourself a great deal.It should be noted that on the ground floor, copies of software programs are made, but I heard that this was being stamped out. You'll have 11 floors to get through, which can be very tiring. So if you are in Singapore and you want a Camera, a Computer or anything electronic, then head to SIM...
