The new and the old court buildings in Singapore.

Favorite thing: By the time of writing (april 2012) the old court building in Singapore is undergoing restoration and will in the future be transferred in to a museum.
The new court building is right behind the old one and is the thing on the photo that looks like a flying saucer.
I personally think that both buildings are quite nice and it´s nice that the old courthouse will be used for something good in the future.

Singapore Changi Airport

Favorite thing: I arrived in Singapore from Australia with Singapore Airlines. I had a good flight, with good Service, Food & Seating.
As I had 3 hours to kill in the Airport before my next flight, I was happy to see a sign saying that free Wireless internet connection was available. All I had to do, was go to the information counter where they gave me the log in access number, and bingo!
I had FREE INTERNET FOR 6 HOURS.
I also saw there were Showers available in Terminal 1, 2 and 3 Departure Transit lounges, handy to know for future travels!

Hainanese Chicken Rice

national dish

Favorite thing: this is Singapore's National Dish! this dish orginated from hainan island in Mainland China and was introduced by the Hainanese Immigrants to Malaysia and Singapore but it was tweaked into The Singaporean and Malaysian Versions. The chicken is prepared in traditional Hainanese methods which involve the boiling of the entire chicken in a pork and chicken bone stock, reusing the broth over and over and only topping it up with water when needed, in accordance with the Chinese preferences for creating master stocks. This stock is not used for rice preparation, which instead involves chicken stock created specifically for that purpose, producing an oily, flavourful rice sometimes known as oily rice with Southeast Asian pandan leaves added sometimes. The orginal Hainanese Chicken Rice version is called Wenchang Chicken and is different from the Hainanese Chicken Rice version of Singapore and Malaysia in the the dipping sauces in Singapore include soy sauce and spicy chili sauce while in Hainan is it more of oyster sauce. The chicken is so tender and so flavorful that you would order more hehehe. It is available everywhere in Singapore at food courts, hawker centers, malls, restaurants and it cost $ 5 hawker centers and $ 8 at food courts and $ 10 at universal studios!

Fondest memory: Hainanese Chicken rice everywhere either the Roasted kind or the Boiled, they taste so good!

"Singapore Tours & Attractions Pass"
balhannah profile photo

4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

balhannah 5379 reviews

Favorite thing: This pass we bought at our Hotel. We had a choice of quite a few passes to choose from, depending on how much time you had.
We chose the 2 day pass, this was excellent value, we got to see and do a lot more than if we were paying for it seperately.
The cost [2008] $63 for 15 attractions.
Through this pass, we got to go up in the DHL Balloon, but I see that this is closed now, for us, this was the only way we would ever do it.

You are pressed for time to see everything in the two days, so I probably would choose the "Singapore Sightseeing Pass" on hindsight, cost for this is only $29.70

Best to check the website for more information www.ducktours.com.sg

When To Go
JaneCajuguiran profile photo
JaneCajuguiran 241 reviews

Favorite thing: Singapore offers a wide variety of choices to the visitors all year round. But I would suggest going there during the great Singapore Sale which is mostly in June and July, and during December when the whole city becomes really festive. During these dates there is a sale frenzy and everyone just seems to want to get rid of their stuff, throwing discounts and promotional sales here and there.

Personally, though, I prefer going there in December. There's just a slightly cool breeze at night. Not like the rest of the year when the heat is almost unbearable.

Driving from Singapore to Malaysia
tropicrd profile photo

tropicrd 186 reviews

Favorite thing: Hello,as far as I know, you can drive a car into Malaysia from Singapore but you have to have 3 quarter of a tank full of petrol (not 1/2 tank) to show to Malaysian authorities.
The other thing is make sure you check any medication you may take with you--as they are tough on drugs.
Make sure you have your international licence.
It used to be you could take a foriegn car in for 10 days--but that may have changed.
You can make sure by getting in touch with some of the hire car agencys in Singapore--Hertz is widely used there.
Hope this helps.
Cheers & safe driving

Fondest memory: I have driven into Singapore from Malaysia, but are certain of rules going back into Malaysia.
Singapore is easy to drive in--the roads are very good.

Walking Singapore

On my walk........Waterloo Street
4 more images

Favorite thing: Singapore is really an excellent place for walking. Yes, it does get hot, but be prepared, take your water, wear your sunhat & sunscreen, and have your sunnies on!
If you do get tired, there is buses & taxi's and the MRT. Get thirsty?,... plenty of places to buy a drink.......Hungry, ....plenty of food places also!

What I found of great help when planning what we were going to see and do, was the website that I have listed. I came across it by chance, and it was excellent in my eyes.
It lists many walking trails that you can do in Singapore, and gives information on each, so you can read beforehand and decide which you wish to do!

Check it out!............

The laughing buddha - rub his tummy!

Favorite thing: Sin Chew Chinese Cultural Products Supermart, in Waterloo street is where you will find the Laughing Buddha. The store stocks large quantities of Buddhas and Confucian deities, all are glittering in gold!,

The "Laughing Buddha" is outside, lots of people were rubbing his tummy for luck, so I did as well, but I don't think it worked! He symbolises great fortune and prosperity and most Chinese love to touch Him, hoping for blessings and wealth in the new year!

Fondest memory: location is...192 Waterloo St, BUGIS

BEN & JERRY'S SCOOP SHOP

black spider monkey

Favorite thing: Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop is an Ice cream shop! at the SINGAPORE ZOO.

We had been walking and walking, and decided it was time to rest our weary legs before they dropped off!
Located near the Orangutans, was this shop, with a nice choice of Ice - cream, plus a big roomy under - cover area to sit, nice to get out of the Hot Singapore sun!

The position of the shop was a bonus, as it was nearly next door to the Orangutans, and there was also a cheeky Spider Monkey on the loose, who just happened to be hanging around in the trees above ours and other people's heads!

This was a nice spot for food and location!
