East of the City in Jurong is the Science Center and the Chinese and Japanese gardens. Singapore takes great care to provide serene natural areas within the city state. The Chinese gardens is just one example.

These two spacious gardens are located near Jurong Lake and are easily reached from the Chinese Garden MRT.

The Chinese Garden is actually situated on an island and the grounds have an extensive Chinese Bonsai display.

There is also a seven storey pagoda which gives you a great view from the top.

The nearby Japanese Garden seems either smaller or it has fewer buildings but it is still worth the extra walk to get there.

The gardens are open from 6am to 10pm during the week and 11pm on weekends. Admission is free.

    Chinese Garden

On our way back from Jurong Bird Park we stopped at the Chinese Gardens. ( 2 Stops down From Boon Lay) Unfortunately, the Garden was closed for renovation and we could only see it from behind the gates. But it surely deserves a visit if you're passing from there and have an hour free.

Next to the Chinese gardens is the Bonsai garden. The garden has a vast collection of Bonsai plants set against japanese style architecture.
