East Coast Park, Singapore
East Coast Park is situated on the south-eastern part of the island. It is the largest and the most popular park in Singapore. It is a very nice place to spend your time during weekends.
You can find many tents pitched on the beaches. Many will hold BBQ on the beaches.
You can rent a bike for $5 for 90 mins and cycle all the way to Bedok Jetty and back.
Roller blading is also a very popular activity. There is an area where all the beginners practise in a ring.
East Coast park offers a wide range of facilities. Be it food, recreation, entertainment and sports. Bowling alleys, golf driving range, holiday chalets, restaurants and hawker centre can all be found in this park.
Bedok jetty is located along the beautiful stretch of beach at East Coast Park and is a favourite place for anglers & lovers to hang out at. The 250m stretch of concrete jetty has seen many a good catch. Many locals also camp overnight here.Fishes seen here includes
groupers, snappers & stingrays.
But make sure you equipped yourself with all your fishing gears.as for food, there are many seafood restaurants & a hawker centre nearby.
If you are a late night owl or an early bird, this is one of the activities you can do. Although I must say that the sunrise here is not as spectacular as those I have seen elsewhere, its still a fun activity to do if you can afford the time. Be there by 6am. The sun will rise around 6.30 to 6.45am.
...you'll like East Coast Park beach. While the water is kind of dirty and the beach itself is full of litter (at least by Singaporean standards), it's a great place if you like looking for seashells or seaglass. Or just random things. :-) Go there 1-2 hrs before sunset and avoid the most crowded areas, and you can have a nice, relaxing walk on the beach.
The food in the hawker centre (the one with the open barbecue places where they make satay - I don't know if there are several hawker centres) is delicious! East Coast Park is also famous for its seafood places, but I didn't try those, just food from the hawker stalls.
To get to the park, take bus #401 from Bedok MRT, or take a taxi.
Check out East Coast Hawker Food Centre for the local delights of Singapore. One must try dish is the sambal stingray. It is cooked by barbaqueing the stingray then putting on a thick layer of sambal chilli. This is absolutely delicious and of course, if you are worried about the spicy level of the dish. Order a lime juice to neutralise the spiciness of the sambal Chilli. Another must try is the "satay". Minced meat (beef/chicken/mutton) skewed on sticks served with sweet peanut sauce. Heavenly. After finishing off the food, u might also wanna take a stroll along the beach and enjoy the beach view in the night. Not to be missed is the cable ski next to the hawker centre where u can check out skiers doing the cables.
Fishing at bedok jetty can be very exciting - from huge barramundis to the tiny sardines baitfish or herrings...
