Jumbo's (also branch at East Coast seafood centre): World famous Chilli Crab
A very busy place in a special setting. On the banks of the river, this place buzzes. Worth booking ahead to secure a table either inside or out.
Local friends recommended this pace and they were able to order for us, enough to feed us to satisfaction.
Favorite Dish: Chilli Crab, - don't wear your favourite white top! Messy, hot and very tasty!
Visitors from overseas, be warned that wine prices in Singapore are more than double what you'd expect! Singapore $50 for a bottle we'd pay NZ$18 back home! (about equivalent to Sing$20)

One of the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant outlet is located at Clark Quay which is along the beautiful historic Singapore River.
The Chilli Crab is simply delicious and you may dip the friend buns into the gravey. Don't wear whites because it can get a bit messy. You can wash your hands with the washing liquid provided. Dont mistake it for a drink or lemon dip ;p

Simple Chinese restaurant serving delicious seafood. Grab an outside table and enjoy the night breeze. Order some fat chilli crab, or any other one of the many styles of crab preparation and get your taste buds racing.

great place to have singaporean chilli crab. Jumbo Seafood is one of around 8 waterfront restaurants in the UDMC complex just off of singapore's east coast parkway. of all of its UDMC neighbors, Jumbo's version stands out. the flavors are perfectly balanced and the crowds that fill the restaurant daily seem to agree. reservations are a necessity on weekends. ask for a first story table to sit in the open air dining area with the better ocean views in the house.
Tip: Do try to choose female over male crabs. They're meatier and fattier in general.
Favorite Dish: Their Hong Kong Style Live Steamed Garupa (known here in the West as Grouper) is not bad. It's steamed then doused with a mixture of soy sauce and rice wine peppered with bits of scallion. Unfortunately, when the fish is on the larger side, it may cook unevenly.
i'm usually a purist when it comes to seafood...i kinda subscribe to the less is more mind-set especially when it comes to my shellfish. i do make an exception when it comes to singaporean chilli crab. the dish arrives with the crab shells pre-cracked, drenched in a red tomato-based sauce, thickened with egg and crab fat perfect for dipping with their golden baked bun. the crab meat is amaaazingly tender, threatened with just a bit of heat. the deceivingly subtle spice of the chilli won't put you off but by the end of the meal your lips will definitely be burning. the heat is cumulative so it won't seem much at first but build it does!!! =) wash the crabs down with a couple glasses of tiger beer you're pretty much set.

Jumbo: Have to have the Chili or Pepper Crab
The chili and pepper crabs are two of Singaporean's favorite dishes. They are quite messy-so please wear dark colored clothing.
These crabs are quite large and serve a few people. At this restaurant, like most Asian restaurants everything is served family style. These crabs are served with fried buns to eat the fine chili sauce.
On the menu, they have a tofu dish for vegetarians. There are many stirfried greens, such as broccoli, kangkong and kailan(tender cabbage-kale leaves)
Their steamed fish is very nice.
Reservations are important if you are dining on a thursday or weekend night. Very popular. Plus nice view of the Singapore river.
Jumbo Seafood: Yucky Seafood & Tourist Trap
The ambience of the hotel was good. There's outside seating and inside seating....we chose to be in the A/C area. Menus are the same prices.
However, the Chili Crab praised by the Singaporeans were not anything special here. It was still sri lanka crabs but it was tiny and the flavor was kind of bland compared to other chili crabs we've tasted.
You must take a taxi to and from since its a little way out from the city center. Lots of tourists here...you'd see foreigners trying to pick up some locals here at the bar next door.
The restaurant over looks Clarke Quay and is at the river front. Right across from the river is a Hooters. Other than that, not many people hang out here during the night.

No this is not some Alien creature, this is the Chili Crab at Jumbo's Seafood. The best part is not the crab, it's dipping the bread in the sauce...uhmmmmm!
