Nothing special, just that most local food is there and the menu in English, Japanese, Korean makes it more tourist-friendly. The hawkers will keep hounding you to grab a seat near their stall. Prices are not exactly cheap compared to elsewhere, e.g. 'Chomp Chomp' at Serangoon Garden (take a cab or bus 73, 136), for that portion of food served. As for the food, my advice: get the real taste somewhere else!

It's just a hawker center. However the taste is just like a big restaurant. There're a lot of seafood stores here, mainly grilling the seafood.
HIghly recommended not to miss these giant Tiger Prawns. I couldn't find it even in the East Coast Seafood Center. One tiger prawn will be already good enough for my dinner.
Favorite Dish: Here's the grilled tiger prawns with garlic and butter. Though a bit expensive in terms of being dining in a hawker center, it's a really yummy dish that could not be missed.

Take your time to walk around. Don't be intimidated by people BEGGING you to eat at their place, take in all the sights and sounds and smells first. Then, if you know what you want, ask and you will be guided to the right stall. If you don't know, find an "A" or "B" graded stall, pick your meal and sit down Enjoy!
Favorite Dish: Hainan Chicken Rice. Absolutely tender chicken, hot chilli sauce and savoury sweet soy sauce...heavenly! Don't forget the young coconut juice, fresh off the nut, so to speak.

Hawker centers are very popular places to eat in Singapore and cheap as well. This is the place where we had our VT meeting.
Here are many stalls with different food, from seafood to deserts.
We tried local food - satay with peanuts sauce, muscles, fried vegetables,....Everything was very fresh and delicious.

The hawker centre at Newton Circus is quite a tourist attraction but there is some good food served there.
There are lots of stalls serving different kinds of food and tables everywhere. Just sit anywhere and order food from anywhere. Food stalls do not have their own tables. When you order your food give the vendor your table number and they will bring the food to where you are sitting.
Because of the tourist presence this is not the cheapest hawker centre at which to eat. A good meal for 2 will cost around S$40 - drinks are extra. If you want serviettes you will be charged 30 cents for a small packets and visits to the toilet are charged for as well.
Favorite Dish: Satay, sting-ray cooked in chili, fried rice, noodles.

Locals don't eat here because the food is wayyy overpriced. You can get the same dishes at any hawker centre in Singapore. For grilled seafood, I'd recommend Lau Par Sat, near Raffles Place.
