No Signboard Seafood: Chili Crab at the Esplanade
My No Signboard experience was quite a good one. We had just gotten back to Singapore that morning on the train from Kuala Lumpur and I had enjoyed one of the few days without rain seeing as many sights as I could. For my last meal in Singapore I had decided I wanted chili crabs. And so we went to No Signboard which is rather well acclaimed.
The food here was admittedly entirely ordered by Valerie. We had the crispy baby octopus and the standard chili crab. The crab was very good and the octopus tasted very much like popcorn. This is not a bad thing. Just a description.
The crab took us a couple hours and a few pitchers of beer to finish although we had help when her friend Chris came by.
Service was great and although not cheap was an excellent choice for a meal here before leaving town.
No Signboard Seafood Restaurant: Good Chinese & Seafood
A Filipino couple who were clients of my wife and are based in Singapore brought us out for dinner at this restaurant, No Signboard Seafood, at the Esplanade. It has great ambience, especially if you are outside as it is overlooking water. The food has a distinct taste and flavor
although the seafood is not really fresh. I understand this has several branches, mostly located in the malls, as we saw one in Vito City.

No Signboard Seafood: No Signboard Seafood - local favour
Local style sea food restaurant. About ambience - there's just no point going to a seafood place if it's upmarket. It's got to be rowdy, at least partially open air, with few to no frills. It's all part of the experience. Luckily No Signboard fulfills all the above requirements, plus it's got no signboard. The service here is only good when they're not crowded. Once the place reaches critical mass though, waiters and waitresses are swamped with work and you can't even get your glass refilled.
However, the food is good. No Signboard is incredibly popular, so if you're planning on going there, it's probably a good idea to go very early, or to make a reservation.
Favorite Dish: White pepper crab, cereal prawns, fire-hot sambal kangkong and steamed seabass done in Hokkien style.
