What to buy: books books books
If you're from the UK, you're most probably familiar with the Borders bookstore chain. They have outlets also in Singapore. The most conveniently located store is on the Orchard Road, near the Orchard Road MRT station.
The selection consists of books and music. All the major needs are catered here, but the selection can be quite narrow for certain specialised topics. The English literature section is excellent and the arts are quite well covered, but you'd better check Books Kunikinoya, too. The store has a cafe that is a nice place to study the books bought.
This place sets itself apart from the rest of the bustle of Orchard Road. As you stroll into the Cone tower of Wheelock Place, you feel the fresh scent of the books rushing to find its place up your nose. This place is ruled by the spirit and the intellectual, enhanced by the authentic yet modern design of the rows and rows and rows more of shelves.
Children and musical enthusiasts have their own enclaves in the bookstore, where children's books and all kinds of music you can sample to your heart's content.
What to buy: This bookshop encompasses all kinds of stuff so that what you want is what you get. As far as I'm concerned, at least.
What to pay: $100 over for an incorrigible bookworm like me.
