I think the best place to get your money changed on Orchard Road is at Lucky Plaza. It is located near the more popular shopping centres and it has a lot of money exchange counters so their rates are very competitive. Just check the rates at about three counters and you will hace a very good deal. And by the way you can have a look at the discount stores in Lucky Plaza too!

Some guide books recommend The Heeren as a teen heaven in Orchard Rd. We took my 14-year-old son there and after 10 minutes he said he wanted to get out because it was too boring !. It is just another shopping centre , nothing special to attract teenagers.

Along the Orchard Road, you may find a lot of budget book small outlets just outside the shopping mall, well if you are lucky, you can find a lot of cheap book. I brought a few of children books in this area.

Singapore and Bangkok must be the shop till you drop places of the region.. However I hate shopping and totally avoided evening passing through ORCHARD ROAD- however there are markets and small places everywhere where one could sample local sweets and foods. I especially enjoyed LITTLE INDIA area. One could see small shops which contain sweets as well as Indian products and vegetables for cooking on your own!
It is fun to explore small corners in back neighbourhoods and taste the local specialties in food for that particular ethnic neighbourhood
What to pay: Singapore's prices are more dearer than the other countries in the region

It doesn't matter where you go in the world, you will for sure bump into a Takashimaya. Also Singapore has an outlet at Orchard Road.
What to buy: Even though that mall does not appeal to me that much, it is a shop where I always, and I mean ALWAYS find something to buy.... and I swear, so will you.
What to pay: Hello!? It is on Orchard Road....

Orchard Road is well known for its shops and is dubbed as the Regent Street / Maddison Avenue of Singapore.
After coming from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok we found the prices were more expensive when compared so luckily I did not have to buy much. The prices were still cheap compared to Europe etc. and the cheap mobile phones and electrical goods are quite tempting. Plenty of Plazas so a map would be advisable to take if you have not already got one. These maps can be found in many of the malls.

It's truly difficult to walk out of this shop without buying something... Work shoes, casual shoes, shoes for formal occasions, trendy shoes... and all at extremely reasonable prices. Not surprising to see people buying more than a pair at a time. It can get quite chaotic at this outlet, but the sales staff DO try their best to serve you. Be warned - there's an outlet located at the Airport too, so you may just return home with some last minute purchases :)
What to buy: Shoes, shoes and more shoes!
What to pay: US$10 - $25 per pair

Ok....since it is the annual sales going on right now in Singapore I ventured into the many high end shops around Orchard Rd., and boy was I disappointed with the prices......Prada shoes that cost $400 in the states cost $415 in Singapore, the sales people tell you you get back the VAT and it sounds like your getting a big deal but in reality.....$3 for $415 dollar purchase, is not worth it !!!!! Armani slacks $300 in the states....$350 in Singapore !!!!! A Gucci wallet $200 in the states ....$225 in Singapore !!!! So my advise is to look and compare prices.....the prices aren't what is cut out to be !!!!! The best part is that these shops are all next to each other, and window shopping is great !!!!!

Well its not a specific shop but the nearest thing i can compare it to, is Oxford Street in London. You can walk along and you'll see any amount of different people, stalls selling a variety of different bits and bobs from jewelery, to designer clothes, to electrical items.
What to buy: Id recomend buying electrical things, eg cameras and the like....
What to pay: anything....
