Sim Lim Square: IT products at Sim Lim Square

Sim Lim Square is a shopping complex dedicated to electronic gadgets and computer products. The 3rd, 4th and 5th story of Sim Lim Complex are dedicated exclusively to shops selling DIY computers, computer peripherals and accessories. If you are a techie and a computer buff, you will find that Sim Lim Square is a haven for buying computer accessories and peripherals - DVD writers, hard disks, thumb drives, RAM chips, webcams etc. As you go up the escalators, there will be people trying to shove catalogues and price lists into your hands. Just grab them and compare the prices offered by various shops before you commit to a purchase.

What to buy: Computer parts and peripherals

What to pay: The price is reasonable and displayed prominently on the price list in front of the shop.

Sim Lim Square: Singapore is Poor.

>>I am here to share a very bad
>>experience about a shop "Mobile
>>Hut" on the second floor of Sim
>>Lim square.

Me, too.
I had also very bad and even sad experience at "Mobile Hut".
This shop's poor feeling should be reflected with Singapore's poor nationality. I expect that Sinpapore becomes to be more developed.

Contrary to what some people may have you believe; this is NOT a bargain basement for electronics. If you want to get a great deal, it's possible, but you need to hunt and negotiate hard! The shopkeepers can tell whether you're a local or tourist, so try to act as nonchalant as possible to stand a chance.

That being said though, this is one of my favorite malls for electronics in Singapore. It's kept its authenticity when malls like Funan have sold out to chainstores, this place has kept its personal touch with literally hundreds of small shops. Remember the higher you go, the bigger chance you'll have at finding a bargain and possibilities to haggle are much better there. Try to avoid the 'larger' shops and try to get a good deal in a smaller shop. Avoid the aggressive touts lingering in front of some shops. And most importantly: compare and compare! Don't buy your goods right away, take the time to look around.

What to buy: Electronics.

What to pay: Less than at downtown shopping centres, but don't expect to get things dirtcheap.

If shopping for a camera, go to The Mustafa Centre in Little India and note their prices - they won't haggle, but prices are pretty cheap. Use the Mustafa price for the camera you want to buy as your base to haggle down at Slim Lim Square (found Funan IT Plaza dearer). Start on Ground Floor and work your way upwards, we got the best price at Song Brothers with extra battery and SD cards.

What to buy: Camera's. Cosmetics are only a few dollars dearer than the duty free price at Singapore Airport.

Sim Lim Square: All Electronic Gadgets You Need & Even More

Singapore is the best place I've ever been for buying electronics. The most convenient venue for purchasing audio-visual gadgets is Sim Lim Square. All the newest and fanciest stuff outside Japan (and thus interconnecting with the rest of your stuff) are available here, with several different prices.

Prepare for hard haggling and deals with several acts: arguing, pondering alternatives, arguing, walking out, coming back, setting price, more arguing and finally finding the suitable price. Check the base price first from Best Denki or some other store that shows the prices and offers no opportunity for settling the price.

Remember that some stores will put an extra charge for buying with a credit card. Try to get rid of it with hard negotiations and acts of desperation. Make sure that you get all required guarantee slips and GST forms to claim the taxes.

Sim Lim Square is not reachable by the MRT, so its easiest to take a taxi.

one whole building full of computer and electronic goods, what more should i say?

What to buy: used to be a good place for buying electronics (audio, cameras, etc). That was 15 years ago (early 90s) when i was a student here. Nowadays you are better off going to Mustafa dept. store in Little India, not far from here. Computers may still be a good deal (remember bargain, bargain, bargain...) However cameras are not that cheap, even after you bargain. Some bad experiences from friends as well, you never know if you are getting a new one or a used one put in a new box

The inside of Sim Lim Square shopping complex

Sim Lim Square is another huge shopping complex in Singapore that deals in electronics goods. This one however has more computer equipment than the others that seem to focus on camera equipment.
There are 6 floors of shops selling all types of equipment from brand new state-of-the-art desktops to old 166Mhz used laptops.
Prices of course are negotiable and haggling is expected.

What to buy: Computers and peripheral equipment.

What to pay: Check prices and exchange rates carefully and haggle to ensure you are being given the best price. Just because it is Singapore doesn't mean you will be getting the best price. Indeed, if you are coming from the US then prices will probably be quite a lot more than you pay at home.
Ensure that an international warranty is included in case of problems and make sure that the piece of equipment will function correctly in your home country.

Square United Cam: Do not Buy at Square United Cam

By Another Unhappy Customer - A lesson Learnt., 12/Dec/10
Stay away from #02-72 Sim Lim Square (- SQuare United Cam). Tell all your friends about this too. And do not even walk near to them, you will be hooked be them by their warmness on the surface, but behind their warm face, they were having a very bad intention to rid you off and upside down.
They introduce me the Sanyo CG-10 camcoder, they told me is latest model, and have warranty in my country, Penang Malaysia. I bought it for SGD 700.00. And assure me is the cheapest. I wasn't do my homework, because I am not intended to buy one. But I see it was fascinating gudget, so I bought it. And when I come back, I found out it was a year old product and almost face out. And now it only cost SGD 200.00. I was rid off SGD500. When I found out the truth, I was shock, not really angry, but rather admire his skill of sales. But I think they rid me off too much. So, I need to declare this to the world's tourist. Do not goto this shop or even walk near it. Kind of dangerous people and place. But I think their shop will be close down soon because, very soon, every people will know what they do and nobody dare to walk near. This is the power of internet. When I look for this shop in the web, I found out that many victim in the web, so I decided to add on my story. I ask all tourist that has the bad experience with this shop, please published in the web, let all people know about them. This shop is at Sim Lim Square, Singapore. Where this Square was known to have many IT product. Now, is no more bargin place. Is a place where wolves are waiting for victim to get hook.

What to buy: Buy in Malaysia if you want to buy IT product. More honest

Sim Lim Square: Dont Get Cheated !

did my research well bac at home.i was very clear to buy PanasonicGS180.Went around most of the shops and found the best price list .Returned to this shop "MOBILE HUT" who quoted the best price .Just before closing the Deal, salesman introduced another camcorder and started of showing visual difference . He started off with all tech jargons and specifications of lower end model which v didnt realise. He offered the same price as of panasonic and in addition offered loads of accesories as free with JVCGr350 .i Just missed to take the print of the camcorder ratings and got carried away with the saleman talk .He even assured us tat he will take it bac the nxt day if v r'nt happy with it .Went back to hotel and surfed and found he offered us Low end model with a price tag of around $300 less than wat v got . Though v went back to return the camcorder, it was just a futile attempt !
Steps to follow
1.Take a print out of the price list and specifications which u intend to buy. very important !
2. Go to mustafa(Discount store) find the price tat they quote.
3. From level 1 and level 2 check the prices of the product which has the price tag.
4. Now start with the other stores asking for Best price and the accessories tat they can offer . Here u have to haggle a lot .
5. Be ready to walk out of shop ! dont worry abt the grumpy look of salesman and attack on ur character tactics(Saying u r stupid if u dont buy this !) . No emotions . keep looking out .
6.Once finalised the price for the camcorder u want to buy, dont ever try checking their other camcorder demos. The lens are changed to show bad performance of teh product u wish to buy and try to show a lower end model as best .
7. Shortlist the best shop and take a new sealed pack. Check the various function of the sealed pack new product .Get all the accesories for free.
8 .Take the GST refund form .All shops provide it for price of s$300 and more
9.Take the international gurantee Card.
10. Take the bill that lists all the product .
