Parco Bugis Junction is a shopping mall that is unique and very dear to my heart. Built around existing historical Peranakan shop-houses, it has a glass-roof that allows the sun-light to come streaming in (but keeps the rain out!) With the air-condition wafting through, shopping here is a really pleasant experience - removed from the normal humidity that is typical of Singapore. It certainly reminds me of my beloved Sydney on a spring morning! All the mid-to upper range international & Singapore based clothing brands are here: for example, Bossini, Giordano, Urban & Co, BsBy, Pretty Fit (shoes), etc. There are a large number of modern jewellery stores, a couple of watch shops, a big Sony camera and accessories shop on the ground floor, a shpp with nice wallets and backpacks for teenagers and older children. The Japanese Department Store Seiyu is also here. Food: If you can distract your kids away from Moshi Burger, McDonalds or Starbucks, the Basement Foodcourt here has a nice selection of value-for money hawker grub and does a brisk business at all hours of the day. Tried & Recommended:-Fish balls, Fish Cakes, Beef Noodles, Singapore Laksa, Nyonya Kuih-all yummy and inexpensive! Leave a Comment Directions: Bugis underground MRT station

Come to Sentosa and experience the island life which is a contrast to the bustling pace to the city. Sentoas is home to many exciting attractions, stunning manmade beach and breath taking view from Sky Tower and exciting ride on the cable car. Take Sentosa Bus from World Trade Centre Bus Terminal or Tiong Bahru MRT. Suggest that you take a Cable Car Ride to have a breath taking view of the city. You can take it From Mt Faber, Harbour Front and Cable Car Plaza on Sentosa. You may like to enquire the admission ticket package for the attractions that you would like to visit. There is a $2 admission charge if u just walk on foot across the bridge to the island. The monorail has ceased its operation on 15 Mar 2005. Leave a Comment

Singapore Zoo is one of the best open concept to be found anywhere and the world's first night safari is right next door. It does make for a long day to do both of these attractions but it's well worth the effort. Tip: It's mre economical to buy yourself a 3 park pass which will get you to the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park. I have added additional photos on a separate Singapore Travelogue. I think probably everyone has heard of the cocktail The Singapore Sling. It was created sometime around 1910 by a Mr. Ngiam Tong Boon at the Long Bar at Raffles, one of the worlds great hotels. So, when in Singapore.....! Raffles Hotel is quite a plush hotel, but the Long Bar itself is actually quite relaxed with a laid back atmosphere and I suppose what you would call a 'colonial' feel. All the tables have large bowls of monkey nuts for you to nibble on,so consequently the table tops and much of the floor are liberally covered with monkey nut shells!! As for the cocktail (bright pink in a tall glass - lads, don't be shy!), well this is the recipe as per the Long Bar: 30ml gin 15ml cherry brandy 120ml pineapple juice 15ml lime juice 7.5 ml Cointreau 10ml grenadine dash of Angostura Bitters Slice of pineapple and a cherry to garnish I sat and enjoyed a couple of Singapore Slings in these very relaxed surroundings. A kiwi lady from a small New Zealand farming town, Danniverk, was on her way to spend a year nursing in London came and joined me for a while, and we had a lovely time chatting over our drinks. He was the founder of modern Singapore and he is also believed to have set foot on this piece of land in 1819. The statue was cast in 1887 and he now lives outside the victoria Theatre and Concert Hall gazing over at Boat Quay. The statue is easily viewed from the Bum Boat tour. Leave a Comment

No words are really required here and I guess every Singapore page has a photo of the Half-fish, half-lion Merlion. They say it is a fitting symbol of Singapore as the "Singa" (lion,) which Prince Sang Nila Utama first caught sight of on the island, was seen near this very spot that the Merlion is situated. Integrating this lion head with the body of a fish was a tribute to Singapore's history as an ancient sea-town. Leave a Comment

While strolling along the foreshore heading from the Merlion to Boat Quay, Anne and I stumbled upon this big bronze bird. The plaque advises that the United Overseas Bank commisioned an artist I have never heard of (Botero) to create this huge sculpture symbolising hospitality and friendship. Leave a Comment

I would recommend that you give this very run down un-"attraction" a very big miss. Singapore's answer to Steve Irwin is under the impression that visitors to his unfortunate exhibit will want to part with their hard earned money to see him pass a $2 note from his mouth to the croc's mouth. Most of the dilapidated exhibits were closed and don't look like re-opening any time soon. You can see some crocodiles, a few iguana's and some snakes which you can have your picture taken with for S$10. Don't come here folks!
