Well there's so many things to do in Singapore I don't know where to start. How about the Botanical Gardens. This is one place I would come back to time and time again. It is very well set out and so peaceful. Hubby and I didn't get to see it all but what we did see was most enjoyable. Leave a Comment

If you love nature, you should stop by at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. You can enjoy a picnic at the park. There are free performance at the stage at Symphony Lake. We went for the SPH concert and it was very crowded as the Singapore Idol were performing and it was the President's birthday! Pls visit the National Orchird Garden inside Singapore Botanic Gardens. There are many varities of beautiful Orchids waiting for your visit. The admission charge is S$5. pics of orchids can be found here: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289370147 There is a new food court named Taman Serisi Food Garden. You can find stalls selling from fish soup, crabs, Malay food, roast meat and mixed vegetable rice. They have both indoor and outdoor seats. It gets very crowded during weekends and you can hardly find any seats and the queue for food is very long too. Leave a Comment

orchids up close by trisanna The botanical gardens is a large park located close to Orchard Road. It is a 15-30 minute walk from the main shopping centres. 10 mins from Tanglin mall. This is a lovely place to relax and admire all the wonderful tropical plants. You have to be in awe when you see the fantastic banyan trees. There is a large swan pond, which has turtles, fish and of course swans. They always appreciate it if you can spare some bread. The highlight of the gardens is the national Orchid garden. For this, there is a small fee. You will see lots of orchids. They even have a section of orchids that are named after celebrities -mostly politicians that pass through Singapore. This place is great for kids, since there is a lot of room in the botanical gardens for them to run around in. On some evenings-there are special performances (mostly Singapore Orchestra). They sometimes show movies at night in the park. There are a few restaurants in the park. A cafe, Au Jardin-a fancy french restaurant and Halia (ginger) a nice cafe/restaurant, which is surrounded by a nice ginger garden. The MRT line doesn't head up this way. For public transportation-the best way to head this way is by bus. From the city-you can take the 7,77,123,106, 502 and a few others. Take the bus to the oppsite Botanical Gardens stop. Just off Holland Road. If you take a taxi, ask to take them to drop you off at the visitor centre at the back. When you leave -you should head out by the holland road exit, since it's very difficult to get a taxi at the visitor centre. The only way to get a cab there is to call one or luck out-as one is dropping others off. Leave a Comment

The Singapore Botanical Gardens are a beautifully landscaped green oasis in this the garden city. A cool respite from the hustle and bustle of traffic and people. A big attraction is the National Orchid Garden which has the largest display of orchids in the world. The Singapore Botanic Gardens also has a small area of virgin tropical rainforest which is older than the gardens itself. Entrance is free with and there are well marked walk trails with interprative signs at all major displays. In one of the Garden's Green Houses by Jmill42 Located in the heart of the city is the Singapore Botanical Gardens. It was my favorite of the three gardens I visited in Sinagpore, and contains the Royal Orchid Gardens. The Botanical Gradens offer many ponds, diverse flauna and flora, bridges, gazeebos and walking paths for all who are lucky enough to come here. There are many places to have a picnic, and you are in fact, encouraged to "walk on the grass!" Take the time to come here... Leave a Comment

Weird Flower by Jmill42 Located in the Singapore Botanical Gardens, this collection of beautiful flowers and lush green vegetation along perfectly manicured paths is truly an escape from the city life. The cost is $2 SGD for adults, and is completely worth it. Every imaginable flower native to this area is contained within its confines. Leave a Comment

My Savior!!! by Jmill42 Take it from someone who has a slight heat intolerance, getting a break from Singapore's heat and humidity can be a beautiful thing! Touring the large Botanical Gradens worked up my sweat... who am I kidding, I was sweating 5 steps from my hostel... but, you can be saved from dehydration and heat stroke in the Royal Orchid Garden's Mist and Cool Houses. Both drop the temperature to within a tolerable range, allowing you to continue on to all those other attractions you wanted to see! Besides the heat relief, each of these houses offers beautiful flowers and statues. The cool house has many insect eating plants and a waterfall as well. Leave a Comment

Pagoda at the Chinese Gardens by Jmill42 The benefit of having the Japanese Gardens closed, was that the entrance to it and the Chinese Gardens were free! The Chinese Gardens were elaborately decorated for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration. I loved this area, with its fish-filled pond and huge Pagoda at the entrance. Entrance normally: S$4.50 Leave a Comment
