Botanic Gardens: Singapore Botanical Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Singapore Botanical Gardens are a beautifully landscaped green oasis in this the garden city. A cool respite from the hustle and bustle of traffic and people.

A big attraction is the National Orchid Garden which has the largest display of orchids in the world.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens also has a small area of virgin tropical rainforest which is older than the gardens itself.

Entrance is free with and there are well marked walk trails with interprative signs at all major displays.

The Japanese Gardens had much of its area closed when I visited. They are renovating and improving the grounds. From what I was able to see, the finished product will be spectacular! There is a fabulous bridge and many gazeebos nestled along a small pond and beautiful paths.

This is a pleasant, green space in the middle of the city. There is a large lake with fish, turtles and swans and lots of tropical plants, trees and orchids. Entrance is free but a 2 SGD charge is levied for entrance into the National Orchid Garden. In here are grown many varieties of orchid, with special ones named in honour of important people that have visited Singapore - Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth, Osama bin Laden, etc.

    Botanic Gardens: botanic gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • One thing surprised me in singapore: tough the big buildings and roads, singapore is plenty of green areas!
Among the many places in the city, the botanic gardens are a good choice to spend few hours walking in the little ways among the trees.

Botanic Gardens: They raised the price
  • Tip Rating:
  • Even though it says just about everywhere the Orchid garden is S$2 it is now S$5. I think it is still worth the price considering you can see the rest of the park for free. I was just kind of miffed when I found out.
I am not necessarily a huge flower lover but I thought the orchids were still very beautiful, and the landscaping was well worth an afternoon walk.
It might just be me, but I tend to get lost easily (the welcome center seems to be my last stop and I am always the one with out a map). But I would suggest doing the botanical gardens after you have a feel for the bus system or take a taxi. The stops (or at least the ones I found) are not right at the entrance, plus after walking all day you don't want to backtrack to go to the same stop you got off at.

    Botanic Gardens: National Orchid Garden
  • Tip Rating:
  • Part of the Botanic Gardens of Singapore is the National Orchid Garden. The orchid is by far my favourite flower, so if I get the chance to visit an orchid garden I take it. You will find many species of orchids in this garden. There is a seperate entrance fee, for this part of the Botanic Gardens, but it's worth your 2 S$. The National Orchid Garden is one of world's biggest orchid displays and there are over 60,000 flowers featured!!

Botanic Gardens: Pack a picnic lunch on sundays
  • Tip Rating:
  • Try to go to the website and check for performances. They are normally in the weekends' evening. Spread a mat and lay back to enjoy the cool breeze and music. It will be a nice change from the concrete jungle.

This is one of the national parks in Singapore. This is also the garden which I cut through almost everyday on my way to class in SMU.

Catch glimpse of nature around. It's a great hangout for families gatherings during weekends and holidays too!

Come in the early mornings (say around 7am) to check out people practising tai chi and taking strolls around the park. Often you may find more activities going around during weekends.

    Advice:
Come in comfortable wear, bring your umbrellas and hats in case of rain or too sunny weather. Remember to check the weather forecast before you make your way down! Arm yourself with mosquito repellent and plenty of water to hydrate yourself.

Botanic Gardens: Color my heart with reds, yellows, and blues......
  • Tip Rating:
  • An absolutely beautiful, breathtaking tour. It's a must if you've ever wondered about flowers and more specifically, orchids.

Inside the greenhouse is a thorough explanation of how orchids can be genetically altered and there is a special section highlighting unique orchids created for an honorary Singaporean guest.
