Cenotaph at Esplanade
The Cenotaph is a 60 feet granite memorial.
It was built originally for the memory of 124 Singaporeans who died during World War I.
Later on the other side, it was added for those who gave their lives during World War II.
The inscriptions are telling and poignant...
On one side "The Glorious Dead"
On the other side " They died so we might live"

This is a picture of the Esplanade (see separate tip which may contain the title "durian fruit". The monument of across the parade ground from St. Andrew's Cathedral, City Hall, and close to the MRT City Hall station.
The monument commemorates the war dead from World War I and II.
