Esplanade Theatres is not only an iconic waterfront arts centre that houses a concert hall, theatre, outdoor performance spaces & arts library, it also has restaurants and shops. There's a high-end mall inside where you can shop to your hearts content.

Situated at Marina Bay, Singapore's prime waterfront location, the Esplanade has become one of Singapore's architectural icons as well as a world class performing arts centre. Here you'll be able to catch some of the best contemporary Asian and Western theatre, opera, musicals, dance performances and popular music concerts. Catch the free outdoor performances on weekends. Opening times: 10am-10pm. Admission to public spaces of the Esplanade is free.

Although the fruit has a horrible taste in my opinion is does look great, and so does this building. It is quite a recent addition to the cities things to see. A lot of Singaporeans hate the looks of this durian shaped theatre building. Wowever there is lots to see and do both inside the building as outside. Most likely you'll be coming here to see a cultural performance or to just check out the inside of the building. However if you hang out outside you can enjoy one of the many free performances by the street entertainers that are frequently held here.

Esplanade is really something. I must say that it is absolutely beautiful building , its also looks the same as the Durian fruit. I think its really a landmark in Singapore that should`nt be missed. Its situated at the waterfront over looking Marina Bay and it has few restaurants here. Its situated close to city hall so if you plan of visiting here just take the MRT to City Hall.

If you can’t get enough of the theatre, then Esplanade (Theatres by the Bay) will satisfy your heart’s desire for culture and the arts. Esplanade explores the performing arts and features not only local talents but international performers as well. There are plays, musicals, concerts and even free shows. What’s more, there are visual arts exhibits of different themes every month. Delight in culture and don’t miss the fun at the Esplanade.

The biggest durian fruit in the world: Esplanade

by Skylink Updated Jun 16, 2006

The Esplanade is a theatre complex (not cinema) with restaurants and shops, too. It's located close to the City Hall MRT and connected to that station. The building looks like 2 durian fruit.

The name of the building is pronounced "esplan-ade" like "lemonaide", not "espla-nahd".

Often there is outdoor music being played between the Esplanade exit and the river. If you look closely toward the central business district, you will see the Fullerton Hotel (with it's columns) and the Merlion statue. Consider walking toward those sites from the Esplanade.

    Esplanada Bridge and Theater

Walking around the city and the river, you should take a moment to enjoy the Esplanada Bridge and adjacent theater. The small triagular plates on the theater automatically reposition themselves over the course of the day to block out direct sunlight.

    Esplanade aka

You wont be able to miss this magnificant 2 dome shaped architecture on the bay near the Merlion Walk.

The Esplanade - Theatres on the bay building has a nickname which is "Durian" (King of the fruits). It is suppose to look like the a microphone.

The arts land food lover will love this place. It also houses many restaurants and the glutton bay where they serve all the local hawker fares is just next to it.

Look out for the "I WAS HERE" and take a picture ;p

Explore Esplanade - Theatres by the Bay

Affectionately known as “The Durian” for its spiky roof, this S$600 million performing arts centre was recently the venue of the Opening Ceremony of the IOC Meeting in Singapore. There is always something going on here – musical, plays, recitals – and there are often free performances too.

Gluttons Bay also opened here recently. This stretch of well-known hawker stalls allow you to taste the best of local cuisine while enjoying the lovely view of Singapore’s skyline.

If you’re dying for something sweet after dinner, head back into the Esplanade Mall to Max Brenner’s Chocolate Bar (try the suckao drink) or Haagen Dazs Café.

After you’ve eaten all that food, work off a few calories by walking along the bay and taking in the breath-taking view.

    the spiky theaters

The esplanade complex-famous for their spiky roofs-which resemble the durian fruit.
There are always great plays, musicians and things happening here.

Inside the building-there are some nice restaurants and shops.

Some evenings, they have live free performances on an outdoor stage. This is a great place to take in the Singaporean skyline at night.

During Chinese New Year Eve -they have fireworks here. A nice park -surrounds the theaters.
