Here’s a picture of Little India. Mustafa Centre in Little India never closes. It sells electronics at cheaper prices than other places in Singapore. Deepavali is a public holiday celebrating the Hindu festival of lights. It occurs sometime in November.

Little India is very nice place for shopping things from India, you can find very nice clothes, fine jewelry, sarees, music, movies...everything you can think of! After shopping, you can enjoy a very nice Indian dinner or lunch. If you are vegetarian you will find a lot of options here.
Walking around Serangon road you will see some Hindu temples, if you want to enter you must remove your shoes before.

A trip here is worth every smell. All around you can smell the different spices and ingrients used in the local cusine, something which you only find in such a district. The colours of the different people is also amazing. While i was here i got a henna tatoo painted on my arm, which cost me around 15 S$...
The market is also an ideal place to buy all sorts of items...many clothes are very cheap, especially if you get a good bargin.

This has to be one of my favorite areas of Singapore. The wonderful smell of spices and food cooking as you walk by. The great window shopping. The cafes, the sweets. The temples are wonderful.
It's really worth it to spend a few hours here. Looking at the stunning saris and jewerly. You have to see all the lovely bangles.
Walking around and taking it all in. There is some great food. You have to try the masala dosai (rice floor crepe with potato mixture inside), thali(rice dish with cups filled with vegetables), idlys(sweet-sour muffin looking things -that you dip into curry), channa batura( large puffed up bread-very thin and light with chickpeas). Very good and healthy.
Have some masala tea and some barfi ( a sweet that is like a very sugary fudge). Comes in all sorts of flavors.
Serangoon road -closest to the MRT or Bukit TImah Road-is mostly a Hindu area, south indian and vegetarian restaurants.
Further down, you get to the Muslim influence. Many food stalls will have tandoori meats, chicken briyani (roasted chicken with rice), murtobak (big pancake/crepe thing with chopped onion, egg and meat-either lamb, mutton or chicken. For shopping must head to Mustafa -a Singaporean institution.

I remember I visited Little India with my parents while my brother played golf, this annoyed me because I had the attitude - 'You see one Little India, you have seen them all', which is not true!!
This little area of land had its own charisma! I think I was able to see this as I stayed here.
If the amazing restaurants owned by culinary geniuses don't baffle you, the numerous gold shops and asian clothing shops will!!
All in all, a good visit, as its free and relaxing!

According to our Tourguide..."LADIES and GENTLEMAN...The first Indian settlers arrived with Sir Stamford Raffles in the early 19th century, bringing with them colourful silks, aromatic spices, incense and other accoutrements of Indian culture. They worked on the roads and helped build the infrastructure of the city, settling within the ethnic enclave that has become known as Little India. The area is delineated by the north-south Serangoon Road, which runs parallel to Race Course Road. Its eastern end stretches to Jalan Besar. Temples, fortune-tellers, busy restaurants, stirring curry spices, jasmine garlands and the exotic hues of silk saris fill the vibrant streets to create a colourful ensemble. Little India is at its best during the Hindu Festival of Lights when the area is festooned with decorative lighting displays...Okay LADIES and GENTLEMAN.."

The atmosphere I have in Little India is, it is another place out of Singapore. It is crowded with Indian especially during weekends.
This is a MUST if you visit Singapore- the feeling of one who visit Little India for the first time after stayed in Singapore for 4 years.

Little India is another interesting district of Singapore, it is colourful and the smell of spices and curries is everywhere. It's great fun to wander around the exotic little shops and temples and small "shopping centers" where they sell typical Indian clothes and jewellery, including special accessories for brides. Also interesting are the small food courts inside those shopping centers where you will only find Indian people (except the occasional western tourist).
