Colourful Orchard Road is a pretty interesting place to meet up with friends, have dinner with them, coffee afterwards, and take photos. A friend has just arrived in Singapore and we decided to meet up with her in Orchard. Some of the establishments are still closed in celebration of the Lunar New Year but then the place is being geared up for Chingay or the Parade of Dreams. This means the Orchard stretch is now bright and colourful and ideal for picture-taking, especially if you're the type of person that wants to capture every corner of a beautiful city.

    Takashimaya in Ngee Ann City

Orchard Road is famous for its shopping; the entire street is lined with most of the popular shopping malls e.g Ngee Ann City, Atria, Shaw Center. You would probably run out of money before you run out of steam if you shop a storm in this address

Ngee Ann City houses most of the posh brands e.g Vuitton, Chanel & Ferragamo. Metro is the local department store that has affordable items and there are at least 2 Isetan (Japanese chain) department stores within 1 km!

You won't have to go elsewhere to get what you're looking for but make sure you have enough money :)

If you are into well known brand like Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, Cartier Orchard Road is for you. It is a long street about 2.2 km filled with shopping complexes. It’s not only the hub for shopping there are also hotels, food court, restaurants, cafes, bars and entertainment centre. I found its enjoyable just to look around and mingling amongst the crowd.

Well this is the main focus for many Singaporeans and visitors to the city-state. This beautiful tree-lined wide boulevard is just wall-to-wall shopping centres lined up with massive department stores and chi-chi boutique shops. There are also lots of places to stay and eat.

This is Singapore at its most international. The hordes of stop-over tourists and expatriates mingle with the hip locals which makes this road a happening place. Prices aren't cheap though, as Singapore is a developed country hence the high costs of goods.

    Shopping & Eating!!!

Orchard Road has shopping centre after shopping centre! So a great location for shopping!!!

It's roughly the same prices as here is Australia, so don't be expecting to shop up huge bargains!! There's just a large variety!!

I didn't stay in the area (stayed at The Gallery Hotel, which I highly recommend), but had some friends stay at the Phoenix Hotel on Orchard Road. A rather cheap option for a hotel if you would rather spend your money on shopping! Good location!!

The night life there is ok too. The back or Orchard Road (near the start of the road), has a huge piazza type court yard, with tonnes of seating for eating dinner. There are also plenty of restaurants to eat in, and the shops are open a little later in this area.

Well worth teh visit both day and night!!!

If you have a gold visa and a shopoholic, then this is the place for you.
Slip on your walking shoes, because on both sides of the orchard road, there are tons of shops and department stores. From designer clothes to fancy gadgets, this is where people from all over the world come to shop. Especially in June when the big sale of the year occurs.
Tons of food courts and coffee shops for people to take their breaks and continue their journey.
    So have fun.

    Paragon Shopping Mall

Orchard road is really the place for people who want to get a feeling of what is life in Singapore like. Take a wlak and you will notice the latest fashion goods from well-known brands like Loius Vuitton to Zara as well as the coolest gadgets and mobile phones.
But the main thing is this stretch of road has fascinating sights and offers something for everyone. You can get everything here and even catch a movie or two. You may also just take a break and have an ice cream cone while taking a look at the people walking around this road. There are businessmen going about in their work, college students hanging around with friends. housewifes doing their shopping and fellow tourists on sightseeing.
Great place you can never miss when in Singapore!

    Orchard Road

Giant main road in the city , with skyscrapers and cafes on either side , best bet is to investigate the claustrophobic little shopping centres on either side where you can buy anything ( apart from chewing gum and pornography ).

Orchard Road is named after the orchards that covered the area up to the 19th century. Today the area is a showcase for shopping. Here you'll find rows of modern shopping centres as well as international hotels, restaurants & bars.

Last Christmas, I really enjoyed walking along the Orchard Road. The Christmas Spirit was very alive. The streets were filled with Giant christmas trees and glitters of the christmas lights, colorful decorations from Sta Claus and the reindeirs, from Mr. Snowman to classy christmas balls. I would really like to go back to Singapore to bring my sons for him to witness a true christmas atmosphere...

    Tangs Christmas Store

Local and international fashion, cosmetics, electronic goods and household products. Located directly across Orchard MRT Station.
We went there December 2006 and it was beautifully adorned with Christmas lights and decors. Very attractive to look at.

I believe every country has only one road that has the best shops on it...if you agree, Orchard Road is this road in Singapore.

The shops range from national chains, international chains and soletraders! SO its nice to see such a large variety of shops!

I think prices were quite reasonable overall but the atmosphere of the road is what you want to see. The hustle and bustle of the city and also, the incredible heat you feel when you walk out of an air-conditioned shop!! ;)
