Singapore icon and mythical creatures the Merlion is a statue that resembles half fish and half Lion. It is well known throughout the world and favorite landmark for visitors to take pictures. The surrounding area also has a great view of Marina Bay, Singapore Flyer, Art and Science Building and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel with huge boat on the top. Go there in the evening is a lot cooler. We went there during the day and it was stinking hot.
We had our boat trip along the Singapore River where we caught glimpses of the Esplanade by the bay and the famous Merlion sculpture.
We passed under big city bridges and interesting business towers along the river.
Don't miss:
*To let the Singapore River tell you its story.
Hey, you should know that:
*The Esplanade's architecture was patterned after the Durian, a fruit.

You can't go to Singapore and say you didn't go look or pay your respects to the Merlion.
Ok, there are actually 4 Merlions that I've seen i Singapore. 2 are in Sentosa... and 2 are here at the MERLION PARK. THIS is the original site, and you should spend a sunset here.
There are 2 merlions here in the park, the main big one which everyone sees and a smaller one behind it. Try to get a picture of yourself ...err...swallowing or at least catching the merlions water in your mouth. It's almost an unspoken tradition to do it.
We took the taxi going to the place because by this time, my feet were ready to drop off from all the other places we went to. You can take the MRT tho... I believe the Raffles MRT is nearest.
After the sun sets, make your way over to Esplanade. There's an outdoor Hawker food center right beside it called GLUTTON's bay. That's my favorite Hawker place in the entire Singapore. :) It's clean and the view is killer. :)
Trust me, on your list of things to do in Singapore, you HAVE to pay your respects to the Merlion.
Since the Mother Merlion is under recontruction and was temporarily Converted into the Merlion Hotel for 1 month from April 4 to May 5 to Celebrate the Singapore Bicentennial, the baby merlion is taking the center stage in the merlion park since this is the only merlion you can take pictures with unless you enter and book at the Mother Merlion Hotel during the 1 month duration that it is a hotel to take pictures. The Iconic Merlion in Front of Singapore is now being reconstructed into a one bedroom hotel for the short term as an attraction to wealthy guest and to celebrate the Singapore Biennal (see my pictures) so that you could only pose at the Baby Merlion nearby. Open for just 32 nights between 4th April and 5th May, The Merlion Hotel will be a single, luxury hotel room, temporarily constructed around The Merlion. The room is fully-fitted with a double bed, bathroom, amenities, personalized check-in and a dedicated Merlion Hotel butler. guests will be invited to enjoy breakfast at the nearby Fullerton Hotel and the price was $ 250 a night.
The Merlion in Merlion Park is the Icon of Singapore and The Merlion is actually a statue of a mythical animal with a lion's head and a fish's body resting on wave crests.the country's name "Singapore" is actually the western name of "Singapura" which is the official name of the country, though it is rarely pronounced even among its own citizens. "Singa" is a word taken from ancient Sanskrit as well as modern-Malay language that means "a lion", while "pura" is Sanskrit for "a place, or a state". Hence, "singa" + "pura" eventually becomes Singapura and then Singapore.T he Iconic Merlion in Front of Singapore is now being reconstructed into a one bedroom hotel for the short term as an attraction to wealthy guest anbd to celebrate the Singapore Biennal (see my pictures) so that you could only pose at the Baby Merlion nearby. They symbol of Singapore, The Merlion, is the center of attraction of this spot. Nice view and atmosphere. One of the best way to spend a lazy Sunday evening. You can go for a boat ride, encircling the park merlion, boat quay and clarke quay.
Closest MRT station: City Hall.
This is the place where every tourist going to Singapore clicks snaps with Merlion in the background. It is, as if, without visiting this place your visit to Singapore is incomplete.
It’s a beautiful place, especially in the evening. Its in the downtown Singapore with huge Skyscrapers on one side while Marina Bay on the other. You can see Singapore Flyer, Esplanade Theatre, Floating Stadium, etc from here. There are many restaurants where you can have food or sip a beer. Check out my tip on “Padang – Beautiful Walk in the Evening” for better idea as on how to plan your visit to this part of the city. You can sit near the bay in the evening which is absolutely relaxing.
One of the most important tourist attractions in Singapore. Lion's head with a fish's tale is making a big statue, placed in Merlion park.
Lion is somehow the symbol of Singapore. In Malay language, Singa means "lion" and Pora means "city". Because the first people who discovered Singapore claimed that they have seen a lion there, the name of the land was Singa Pora.
Not including the ones that you find in souvenier shops, there are five official Merlion statues to be found in Singapore.
Two of them are located at Merlion Park which is very near to the promenade of the One Fullerton Hotel.
A third Merlion is 37m high and overlooks Singapore from Sentosa island.
The fourth Merlion is located at the headquarters of the Singapore Tourism Board at 1 Orchard Spring Lane.
The fifth Merlion is located at Mount Faber.
One of the most famous landmarks of Singapore is the Merlion. Its a big statue/fountain with the head of a lion and the body of a fish.
The statue can be found in Marina Bay. It's very cool, so I would recommend going to see it.
