Merlion at Sentosa by trisanna Update 2007, below is my original tip. Recently they have done a lot of renovation to Sentosa. Probably the greatest addition is the new monorail that connects vivo city(mainland singapore) to the island. In a few years, Sentosa will have a universal studios and casino, which the monorail will stop at. we use the monorail to take us to palawan or siloso beach. The monorail makes the trip much more convenient and fast. There are lots of new restaurants and bars on the island. Cafe del mar is probably the most hip at the moment. You can get a beach cabana or lounge chair for the day. The other attractions are still kind of lame, but it's nice to hang out by the sand and escape the city. Volleyball is very popular here. I have mixed feelings about Sentosa. It's billed as an island of attractions, beaches, and fun. Unfortunately, Singapore does not deliver on this. For kids-i am sure the place is great. For adults, it's a different story. The place is so overpriced and the attractions are only so so. I know many Singaporeans, who have either never been here, not been in years or never want to go back. For locals, the beach is nicer than the one on east coast park. A lot of people play volleyball there. There are a bunch of attractions, underwater world, pink dolphins, images of singapore (quite good), fort siloso(good), lame jungle treks with tacky and fake dinosaur bones. They have a magical fountain at night. The big attraction is the very large merlion. You can go inside-into the mouth and on top it's head. From the head you have a good view of Singapore and on a clear day -Indonesia. There is a lot of talk of redeveloping this area, but unfortuantely not swift action. This is such a shame-since this could become a first rate amusement park. There are some nice hotels here-Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa and the Beaufort hotel and spa. Playing on the famous slogan of its sponsor, Sentosa's Carlsberg Sky Tower claims to offer "Probably The Best View of Singapore!. The Carlsberg Sky Tower is located next to the cable car station via which many people arrive on the island of Sentosa. This is how I arrived on the island, and so the Sky Tower was the first attraction that I visited. This proved to be a good way to get an overview of the island and to get my bearings. Visitors sit in an air-conditioned compartment, with large windows on all sides, and are transported to a height of 131 metres above sea level. The compartment constantly rotates 360 degrees as it ascends to its final height, and then rotates for around 5 minutes at the top. So, wherever you sit, you will get to admire the views in all directions.....and take plenty of photographs! The views certainly are impressive. In one direction, you can admire the high rise buildings of Singapore city. In another direction you can admire Sentosa's sandy beaches and view a number of Malaysian and Indonesian islands a few miles out to sea. Below, you can see the lush greenery of the island, the cable cars arriving at the island, the island's various museum buildings, restaurants and other attractions and lots of people milling around. The Sky Tower opens daily from 9am - 9pm. Admission to the Sky Tower was included in the price of my entrance ticket (I paid S$56.90 for a ticket which included cable car rides to and from the island and entrance to a host of attractions), but if you pay individually prices are as follows: Adults: S$10 Kids (3-12 years old): S$6 Leave a Comment Address: Sentosa Island, SingaporePhone: (65) 6-275-0388Website: http://www.sentosa.com.sg/ Other Contact: http://www.skytower.com.sg/st/in

The combined Nature Walk and Dragon Trail is one of the free attractions on Sentosa island. This 1.5km walk, which begins close to where visitors arrive by cable car, passes through lush rainforest and gives visitors the opportunity to see plenty of local flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for lizards, snakes, macaques and a variety of birdlife. Although it is a relatively short walk, parts of the trail do feel like being in the middle of a rainforest....especially when you're alone and you hear a rustling in the foliage or the overhead treetops! The Dragon Trail part of the walk consists of recreated dragon bones and skulls littering the side of the path. There are also a few small waterfalls along the trail. The walk is best attempted in decent footwear as the paths get very muddy after it has rained. Not knowing in advance what the paths would be like, I walked along the trail in flip flops and frequently encountered muddy areas that I had to attempt to sidestep. Along the edge of the trail, there are several information boards which provide visitors with facts and information about the various flora and fauna that they are passing. You might not want to read about the various indigenous snakes while you're on your own in a dark rainforest! Leave a Comment

Feeding time for the fish at Underwater World by SWFC_Fan, 4 more photos When I visited Sentosa Island in November 2005, I bought an entrance ticket (at a cost of S$56.90) which included entrance to the Underwater World aquarium as part of the package. This large aquarium houses thousands of different types of fish, jellyfish, eels, sharks, coral and other sea life. These range from small goldfish to large sharks, including a wide range of tropical fish such as the impressive fluorescent "Sea Angels". One of the highlights of the aquarium is the "Touch Tank", where children (or young at heart adults) can put their hands into a water tank and touch and pick up various types of fish, starfish and even baby sharks. The aquarium's main attraction is an 83 metre long underwater tunnel which transports visitors on a conveyor belt while sharks and schools of fish swim overhead. From here, you can see the fish being fed from buckets by the aquarium's staff. The entrance fee for Underwater World also entitles guests to visit the Dolphin Lagoon, but I didn't bother to do so. Had entrance to Underwater World not been included in my ticket price, I probably wouldn't have paid the invidual price to go inside. It is very impressive as aquariums go, but there were plenty of other attractions on the island that I would have preferred to spend the money on. If you're travelling with kids, you'll probably want to make Underwater World one of your priorities while visiting Sentosa. Underwater World is open daily from 9am - 9pm. If you don't buy a package which includes entrance to Underwater World, prices are as follows: Adults: S$19.50 Kids (3-12 years old): S$12.50 Underwater World can be reached on foot from the entrance of Sentosa, or can be reached via one of the free buses that stop right outside. We've been to Sentosa several times but we can't stop going to the Underwater Aquarium. It's a great place to watch sea creatures interact with each other and behave in their habitat. In addition, you get to see a number of endangered species, like the dugong. By the way, the ticket for the aquarium entitles you to the Dolphin Show so better check the schedule. We were fortunate that when we got our ticket, the Dolphin Show was just about to start. To go to Sentosa, we took the MRT to Harborview and rode the cable car. It's more expensive but it gives you a great view of the harbor and the city. Going back, we rode the new monorail to VIVO City. Check out the website below as all the information you need is there.
