It’s the closest place to a jungle. With free-ranging orang utans overhead, you’re out to set foot on an adventure on your own. The place was quite a maze, which, if you don’t have a map at hand, you’ll end up at the White tiger’s den or at the Hamadryas Baboons! I did just that when I was lost from my companions at the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia. I was busy taking pictures at the baboons and walked all the way through when suddenly I realized I was already alone (except for a small group of primates playing on trees nearby). Thank God the primates happened to mind their business on their own, so I continued to make my way out and encountered a lonely fox at the end of the trail.
One thing I liked about this place is that the people like to put a twist when giving their safety tips to the visitors.
To name a few:
1. Watch out for your kids lest they find their way into a lion’s den.
2. Do not stampede, only elephants do.
3. Have you encountered any of our native animals such as snakes, scorpions, flying lemurs, long-tailed macaques, and monitor lizards? If you have, and need help, please approach our friendly staff.
When we were there, I encountered a monitor lizard crossing our path and a peacock taking a nice stroll with us. How cool is that?
Don’t miss:
*To visit Inuka.
*To ponder about seeing any butterflies.
Some tips:
*Be cautious about kangaroos crossing.
*Have a fun ride on the elephants.

If you like seeing animals but scared to see them all caged up... don't be. The singapore zoo has made a very happy place for all of them. They're almost in the wild up here.
If you're coming with children and want up-close encounters with the orangutans...call ahead. Have a table reserved for you then come early on your day. You can have breakfast with the furry dudes. :) (or at least breakfast, then an up-close photo op with them).
There are lots to see here, and this is a great place to go if you have children...or want to take loads of pictures. (The day zoo is great for photos...the night safari? Nope. Useless to take shots unless you're a patient photographer with a great camera and tripod and an expert at night settings).
You can take an elephant ride (for an additional fee), catch the animal shows, animal feedings or just roam the place. You can take a tram around the park (but won't really get to see much). It's really best to walk from place to place and take your time.
OH and! Make sure you catch the Elephant show. :D And when you do, buy a basket of fruits to feed them with . :) It's unforgettable to have one of those giants eating from your hand.
What else can I say? It's a zoo. A world-class one.
TIP:
Best to take a taxi going and coming from here. You may call for a taxi instead of waiting in line... that might take forever. There are taxi numbers right there on the taxi line. All you have to do, is say where you are, and they'll get back to you with a plate number and approx time for picking you up. There's an additional fee for calling a taxi... I think it's an additional S$3? (not sure) but it's way better than growing old in the line. :)
As dark falls, the night has just started for over 1000 nocturnal animals. Observe, as they rise to frolic, graze and hunt their night away. Embark on a fascinating journey through the world's first wildlife night park.

If you want to celebrate your child's birthday with a difference, do try out KFC Birthday Party @ Singapore Zoo. You'd not only get food, but also special games, and even a 15 minutes appearance of an animal. eg. A Humongous Python. A super treat for your child.
Taking the small train ride aroung the safari was an excellent introduction to the animals, and was very helpful for Susan who finds walking very tiring. After the warnings not to use flash cameras, the usual suspects were put to shame and the tour continued in the warm, noisy (cicadas and frogs with odd bird calls) dark. The animals were illuminated by lamps mimicking moonlight which was more than adequate. The commentary was useful (only in English, I think) but a bit corny in parts.
Arrive early if you want tickets for the Creatures of the Night show.
It is also possible to walk along different trails to see more animals and to take low light pho tos
The food in the stalls in the park did not look particularly appealing., and bottled water was expensive.
It's still a safari, but to experience going to a zoo at night with just the stars and basically hearing the cricket and frogs making their noise, is an experience not to be missed.
I was glad to have gone with two girls. It's eerie to walk at night in the trails, with sometimes no one in front or back of you.
Also, what normally you see the animals asleep during the day, here are awake and very much active.
This is a lovely evening activity to do. Its great for adults and children. When you first arrive you queue up to go on a train. This takes you around the zoo with a someone explaining what the animals are also helping you to find them because they do hide. There comes a point when you can get off and look at animals which are off the main path. I would recommend it. After you get back on the train for the next bit. Trains run regulary in the park and the staff are lovely. When you finish you can eat in the restaurant and visit the shop. This is a excellent trip.
