Time is Gold!
If you want to save time due to a limited vacation, taking the plane is the best way to travel!
When we went to Singapore, we thought of visiting Malaysia too since it's very near to the country.
By the time we had the chance to have a very exciting escapade back then, we booked through Air Asia airlines to fly to Kuala Lumpur and Tiger Airways to go back to SG.
Air Asia and Tiger Airways are air buses, just like the Cebu Pacific of PHL, making it very affordable to cross country anytime.
Travel from SG to KL and vice versa takes only about an hour compared to taking the train that will take 6 hours.
Time is very much valuable. You can work on how to earn more money you’ve spent everytime you travel but getting back the wasted time, is the most impossible thing.

Today I took a " Nice " Express bus from KL (to get to Singapore) at 3 pm. It reached its Singapore terminal at about 9.10 pm. I took the MRT from Little India and reached home at Yishun(Singapore) at about 10.10 pm. That is usually the time I reach home at Yishun if I took the "First Coach" express bus which leaves from Bangsar in KL at 4.30 pm. Tired, wasted time and I missed a family dinner gathering...And the reason I took the Nice bus at 3 pm was to reach home early. Very frustrating indeed !!!
I took the Nice express at old KTM station in Kuala Lumpur. I thought it would leave straight to Singapore. But it went around in KL/Selangor...to KL Sentral, then to Salak Selatan (I think) and when it finally got to the highway to Singapore it was almost 4 pm. They should have been honest and informed me that they will be picking passengers from all over and will leave for Singapore only after that. I would have taken another express. No point having all the frills without realizing customer's service satisfaction.
I would have certainly taken First Coach. This service maintains it's schedule, good service...and it is certainly much cheaper. No wonder they are always running Full.

I STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND to take Five Star coaches(should be No Star coaches...!!!!). Driver bus are very rude, racist and not helpful.. Lovely memories at singapore change to a nightmare when the driver ask us to get off from the bus at One Utama, Petaling Jaya at 3am in the morning! Eventhough our tickets show our arrival destination is at Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. After about 15minutes arguing with the bus driver, he can just simply ask us to take taxi to KL.. Stupid! Where can get taxi at that time??!!! Luckily we didnt get robbed.. And some more, dont trust on their nice coaches pictures coz it is not as what you imagine when you get into the coach. Plz inform others..

Although you can go from, Singapore to Johore Bahru via Rail and Ferry, this is the most historic ride to go to Johore. In this 1056 Meter long causeway, All vehicles have the option to enter the customs complex either through the Bukit Timah Expressway or Woodlands Centre Road and tolls from singapore is 0.90 Singapore Dollars for Buses and 1.20 Sing Dollars for Cars. Always Remember to Bring Passports as you are leaving for another country. Tolls going Back from Malaysia is 2.10 Malysian Ringgit for Buses and 2.90 Malaysian Ringgit for Cars. There is another Line besides the causeway to and from Singapore but is used by the Trains going to and from Singapore to malaysia

There are many buses from Singapore; causewaylink, Singapore Johor Express, Bus 170; from SBS to Johor Bahru's Main bus terminal in Larkin. It costs roughly $2-3 to cross the border. It is a short 40 minute journey from Kranji MRT (including crossing the immigrations). Due to the special permit required for express buses from Singapore to Malaysia, there are actually more buses departing to more locations in Malaysia.
There are also many more timings available (for example, buses to KL depart every half an hour). Especially if you live in housing estates on the red line of Singapore, it is much faster to go straight to Larkin in Malaysia to buy your tickets to destinations like Melaka, Kuala Lumpur. You also save about half the transport costs too! For example, a trip from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur is 31 ringgit, but cost from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur is SGD51. That is about double the price! The five minute walk from Kranji MRT for the bus station to Larkin is also significantly shorter than the fifteen minute walk from the MRT (Nicoll Highway MRT / Bugis MRT).
Another reason why I take bus from Larkin, Johor Bahru is because I can use the toilet at the Malaysia Custom & Immigration Checkpoint without the coach driver (from Singapore) hurrying you and threatening to leave without you with all the other passengers waiting up for you.
I have also found an express bus website (roadhop.com) that has many of the bus / train information of the buses leaving Singapore and to the different states of Malaysia. It seems quite useful and they’ve information on most of the major states like Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Ipoh, Butterworth, Alor Setar, Penang, Kota Bharu etc. The only drawback that they do not have information on ferries yet. (If I want to go Langkawi, the site does not have information on it.)
I think going by bus to nearer locations like KL, Melaka is actually more convenient because you don’t have to check in your luggage 2 hours before. There are also cities like Batu Pahat, Muar, Segamat, Melaka, Seremban that does not have direct flights from Singapore Changi Airport or the budget terminal. It is also much faster for people who live in the West like I do to take bus. Moreover, I can hook up on Broadband on mobile and check my emails / surf the net as I travel. So it is definitely a more enjoyable experience!

In 2004, August during National Day, I went to Melaka. What a costly mistake it turned out to be! The traffic was very heavy and I reached the bus terminal at 3 pm. At the bus terminal, I searched for return ticket back to Singapore. But, almost all of the bus companies were fully booked. In the end, I managed to get a bus company that was going to Johor Bahru. I think I took the 9/10 am bus to Johor Bahru and then take SBS 170 to Singapore. There, I stayed for twelve hours plus. My advice is that plan your trip earlier.

During our trip to Singapore,we decided to go visit KL as well, we took the Aeroline coach bus and we had a nice and comfortable trip. Its a double decker luxury bus and they have a lounge with a tv just in case you get bored sitting on your designated seat. If you're coming from Singapore to KL, it's best to get a one way ticket from Sin-KL and get your return ticket from KL coz it's a lot cheaper. We paid $32 (USD)/person from Sin-KL and we booked the return ticket in KL for $16 (USD)/person. You can book your tickets online just go to www.aeroline.com.sg for your SIN-KL ticket and then go to www.aeroline.com.my for your KL-Sin ticket. From Singapore you board at the Harbourfront Center, it's in a mall which is also beside the Vivo Shopping Mall. In Kl, you get down Corus Hotel which is very near The KLCC or The Petronas Twin Towers.

Aeroline is one of the coach company that operates the route from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.
The arrival/departure point in Singapore is Grand Copthorne Water Front Hotel and Harbour Front Centre (Car Park beside Singapore Cruise Centre).
The arrival/departure point in KL is at Corus Hotel, Jalan Ampang which is next to KLCC LRT and 1 utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya (next to Giant entrance).
Aeroline is highly recommended as it does not arrive/depart from the usual Puduraya Bus Terminal or Golden Mile Complex.
KL/PJ - SIN RM80 (one way)/RM160 (round trip)
SIN - KL/PJ S$47 (one way)/S$94 (round trip)
