temple by pattayaraj The oldest Hindu temple in the location of chinatown. This temple was built in 1827 and dedicated to the goddess Mariamman who have a power in curing illness and diseases. This temple was built in 1843 with the south Indian Dravidian style similar to Sri Meenakshi in Madurai, India. The most interesting feature is gopuram (tower) over the main entrance, which is decorated with numerous Hindu deities. When I was there, it was a daily ritual which was so fascinated. The important notice on this temple: 1) you need to only enter barefoot 2) avoid the main area of God and Goddess statues, it prohibit for non-hindu. The entrance is free but for camera and video 'd pay for a ticket. RafflesLongBar(photoextractedfromURL) by xuessium Nothing beats a cool tall cup of Tiger Beer at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel during Happy Hours, where you can take a breather from the afternoon heat, chat with friends in the cool and throw all your peanut husks onto the floor! (No fines!) Don't forget to give the world famous cocktail Singapore Sling a try. The Singapore Sling was created at Raffles Hotel at the turn-of-the-century by a Hainanese-Chinese bartender, Mr. Ngiam Tong Boon. It was originally meant as a woman's drink, hence the attractive pink colour. The ingredients included: Gin, Cherry Brandy, Pineapple Juice, Lime Juice, Cointreau, Dom Benedictine, Grenadine, A Dash of Angostura Bitters and garnishes of a slice of Pineapple and Cherry. MarinaBay by xuessium This is home to many of Singapore's recognisable sights. That hideous thing that is called the Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay is here, resembling a pair of housefly eyes or 2 durian husks. If you start from here, don't forget to drop by Glutton's Bay, a hawker centre (sort of, since it was targetted more or less at tourists) right next to the Theatres where you can grab some local dishes for lunch, dinner or a snack. Walk across Marina Bridge from the Theatres and you will find yourself at Merlion Park and One Fullerton. Cross the underground passageway and you will arrive at the grand old dame of the Fullerton. Drop in for a cup of coffee or two before proceeding upwards towards Singapore River. Leave a Comment

Start from City Hall MRT station at Raffles City Shopping Mall. Cross over to CHIJMES, and see the old Methodist church that is now home to various restaurants and shops. If a wedding is taking place, you may be lucky enough to see the church tower that has been beautifully restored and is now used solely for weddings. Cross Victoria Street and you will reach the Cathedral of the Good Shephard, a brown colour church that is the most important Catholic church in Singapore. Further down the road, and you will find the Singapore Art Museum. Entry fee for adults is S$3. Drop in to see exhibits by local artists such as Liu Kang or take a break at the lovely Olio Dome cafe there. Exit from the back and you will walk past Maghain Aboth Synagogue, one of only 2 Synagogues in Singapore. You will then hit Sculpture Square (drop in to see the exhibits; entry is free) before ending up at Waterloo Mall, a buzzing flea market. Don't miss the Sri Krishnan Hindu Temple and the Kwan Im Chinese Temple, as well as to rub your hands over the belly of the Smiling Buddha statue in front of Skyline Building for luck. Turn towards Bugis Village with its labyrinth of stalls; try Chinese Herbal jelly or fresh durian when you are there. You will then cross Victoria Street again to get to Bugis Junction Shopping Mall. For books lover, the new National Library is just next door and next to it is Bras Basah Complex which is home to many book stores. Cross the street and you will arrive at Raffles Hotel, the grand old dame and eventually find yourself back at Raffles City Shopping Mall. Allow yourself 2-3 hours for the walk. Leave a Comment
