Civil Defence Heritage Gallary

by cal6060

This is small museum located in City Center. It is nearby the MICA Building. If you are passing by, you can learn the history of Singapore Defence, and the dairy works of the firemen in Singapore. I like this old Civil Defence Building with red bricks. Opening: Tue-Sunday, closed on Monday 10am-5pm.

MICA Building

by cal6060

This building has a old history since 1845 as an Assembly Rooms until 1856. After that it had been a Police Station (Hill Street Police Station) untill year 1980. Then, it was renovated become MICA building up until today. This is a beautiful old colonial styles building with some Asian identity. The Ministry of Information, Communication and Arts has made this building as ARTrium where art exhibitions, activities, and performances are held here year round. When you enter the building, you will learn some history of the buildings, and then walk into a open space with glass roofing surrounded by old colorful windows. There are some shops that sell local and international art works. This is a great place to shop for good and quality art pieces. Admission is Free.

Marina Bay: Marina Bay Sands

by cal6060

Marina Bay Sands is one the two casinos in Singapore. It was officially opened on the 23rd June 2010. This amazing building becomes the icon of Singapore, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Singapore. Marina Bay Sands attracts tourists from all over the world especially from Asian countries. Marina Bay Sands does not only have a Casino, but it has many other things you can do including shopping in International branded outlets, dinning in spectacular restaurants with 5 stars views, visiting the Sands SkyPark, staying in luxury hotels, ridding the Sampan (boat) indoor, hanging out with friends in cafes, and etc. Check out its website for your choice of activities ...Don't miss this attraction...

Stamford Road

by cal6060

Stamford Road has given me a beautiful memory of Singapore. This is the road where you can see the remain old colonial buildings including Capitol Building, Stamford House, Stamford Court, and National Museum Of Singapore. I used to take MRT to City Hall, then start walking on Stamford Road. I used to stop by a small bookstore in Stamford House, the bookshop sells books with bargain prices. You can explore inside Stamford House with the old architectural design, there are salon, internet cafes, offices, and etc. Then, I would continue to shop and book browsing at the Big MPH Bookstore in Stamford Court. In around 2003, MPH had been removed, and the place became a small private college. I would hang out at the National Library of Singapore. It was a beautiful 60s style two-stories building. It was demolished to make way for the construction of the Fort Canning Tunnel to ease road traffic...

Marina Bay

by cal6060

Marina Bay is the latest tourist district in Singapore. It is a reclaim land to build the Marina Bay Sand Casino. You can stop at Promenade MRT, walk toward the Bayfront Avenue. First, you will see the modern and beautiful Helix Bridge. On the bridge, you can see the spectacular views of Marina Bay Sands, Art Science Museum and the Esplanade. You can either continue to walk along the bay area or shop at the Marina Bays Sands. It has huge shopping mall inside with water canals, sky deck to see Singapore from the top. Along the Marina Bay waterfront, you can see the high rise buildings like Singapore Land Tower, AIA Building, Hong Leong Building, The Sail, OUB centre, Republic Plaza, and etc. I highly recommend you to stop by after dark. There is a "Singapore Fantasia" show at the outdoor waterfront Promenade. Don't miss...

Chijmes

by cal6060

Chijmes is a beautiful gothic-style catholic church building in the center of downtown Singapore. It was a catholic convent known as the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus for 131 years. This building was completed in 1904. Today, it has been restored for commercial purposes including shops, bars, restaurants, and entertainment center. It is a famous location for the locals to host musical functions, wedding events, and other functions. It comes with some Hispanic architectural feel. Don't miss ..

Orchard Road

by cal6060

Orchard Road is the most famous shopping street with big shopping malls, department stores, hotels, clubs, business offices, and etc. Locals and tourists usually come here for shopping, dinning, movies, and clubbing. If you like branded goods, this will be the place for you. If you are not fancy about luxury shopping, at least stop by here once to enjoy the architectural buildings, the vibrant streets with people, beautiful lighting out at night especially during Christmas. Major Shopping Malls: Shaw Centre, Shaw House, ION Orchard, Wisma Atria, Lucky Plaza, Paragon, Ngee Ann City, Mandarin gallery, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, The Centrepoint, Tang Plaza. Boat Quay Riverwalk

by cal6060

Boat Quay is always my favorite place. From Esplanade Drive, walk across the street is The Fullerton Hotel, You can either explore museums on the north side of the Singapore River or walk along the river with restaurants, clubs and bars on the south side of the river. You can spot the most beautiful city skyline with the Singapore River in here. If you want to see the fast pace financial district, passing thru the UOB Building, you can see an open field surrounding by high-rise buildings of Financial business. You can easily spend few hours here for the surrounding attractions. Of course, there is always shopping opportunities.Major Attractions: The Arts House, Parliament House, Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall, Sir Stamford Raffles Landing Site, Asian Civilisations museum, The Fullerton Hotel. Major Shopping Malls: Collyer Quay, Change Alley.

Activities on the Fly! Loving Singapore

Tuesday, July 17, 2007 (and 2009 & 2011)Travel Update--> Singapore (Southeast Asia) Current mood: crazy Category: Travel and PlacesReminder. I travel to write, learn, and be free -- the best pilgrimage. Try not to wait to get out and see the world especially while it is relatively calm. Guess being solo has its privileges.Essences of Singapore II. > Second Visit---> My friends, some of you know that I've visited Singapore before. Being into commerce and military history, this was a must see place. Had to return to experience more of the culture. Fantastic Island country. The leadership is to be commended. They have a parliamentary democracy. But, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew (former Prime Minister 1959-1990) made a vision into a commerce dynamo city-state. Safe. Organized. I highly recommend you visit here.> Friends/Network--->This trip I've solidified previous friendships and added...

This special zoo

by Assenczo

Singapore zoo is touted as one of kind with its ringed by moats rather than fenced enclosures for the animals. Moreover it is situated on a jungle clad peninsula with boat rides and offers shows that involve animals for the thrill of the children and their au pairs. What makes it unique in terms of animal variety is the presence of the white tiger and the Komodo dragon. While the second can be spotted on a safari adventure in the wild expenses of Indonesia, the first is apparently confined to zoos only nowadays. The tiger enclosure includes three specimens – one male and too female ones. The male tiger seems very unsettled pacing back and forth on the edge of the moat looking wistfully at the picture-snapping crowd wishing for Christmas gift in the form of human flesh. The females are sleepy and lazy not to be bothered by the advances by the male or the flash mob across the moat. The key...
