West Coast Park

by muratkorman

West Coast Park is one of the popular parks visited by locals for recreational activities just like East Coast Park. There are so many alternatives you have such as walking, jogging, inline skating, cycling, kite flying, bird watching, camping, etc. You can even rent a bbq pit and enjoy your food in the park. You can see below how to reach this nice park from different locations.By bus: Take services 176 and alight directly in front of West Coast Park. You can also take services 30, 51, and 143, alight in front of Clementi Woods Park (West Coast Road) and take a 5 minutes walk through West Coast Link to West Coast Park Area 3 (near to the Adventure Playground).

Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay!

by kelnsha

You will love or hate it, Singapore's SGD600 million Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay has fast become the posterboy of contemporary Singaproe, a shining example of the artsy and creative side of the island.Dubbed 'the durians' by the locals, the theatre complex's twin glass domes, covered in 7139 variously angled aluminium shades, do not take their design reference from the tropical fruit but from the natural geometries of nature and traditional Asian reed weaving. Most likely you will come here to see a cultural performance at one of its several auditoria, to eat at one of the many restaurants that are in the rest of the complex or to hang out around the outside of the building where free performances are frequently held.

Visit Singapore's Oldest Church - Armenian Church!

by kelnsha

Singapore's oldest church is the charming Armenian Church. Designed by eminent colonial architect George Coleman, this neoclassical style church dates back from 1836 and is dedicated to Saint Gregory the Illuminator. In its grounds lie the graves of several Sarkies (but not the brothers of Raffles Hotel Fame) and Agnes Joaquim, discoverer of the island's first hybrid orchid, now the national flower.

by kelnsha

This colourful temple is dedicated to Guan Yin, one of the most popular Chinese deities. The temple attracts a daily crowd of devotees seeking divine intervention in their lives. Flower sellers can always be found outside the temple and it is particularly busy on the eve of Chinese New Year when it stays open all night.

Fly with DHL Balloon in the heart of Singapore!

by kelnsha

Climb on board Singapore's 1st helium balloon ride — a novel way to take in the wondrous sounds & beautiful cityscape of Singapore. This is the world’s largest tethered helium balloon designed in France. For all of 10 mins, you’ll be floating on a balcony with nothing under your feet except a bird’s eye view of the lion city. Do it if you’re not afraid of heights & don’t forget to bring your cameras! It took 40 people, 12 hrs & 6,500 cubic metres of helium for the balloon to fully inflate. It can take up to 29 passengers & drifts upwards to a height of 150m (40 storeys) to unfold a breath-taking 360 deg. panoramic view of the city.A wire cable connects the balloon to the ground & a hydroelectric winch controls the whole system. It doesn’t take flight in bad weather conditions. The balloon even has enough room for a 3-piece band & a small audience! At night, when the sky transforms into a...

Little India

by muratkorman

Little India is the gathering place for Indian community in Singapore. The first thing that will take your attention will be the heavy scent of spices. As Indian cuisine is based on many spices, there are spice shops around Little India as well as restaurants serving Indian food all of which contribute to this smell. There are Indian temples with their colourful atmosphere. You will also be amazed by many jewellery shops in Little India selling mainly gold. besides gold, food and spice, there are textile shops selling silk Indian clothes and accessories.

DAO's SECRET SINGAPORE

by DAO

HELLO! Let me let you in on a secret. The best views of Singapore can be seen for free unless you really want to hire a helicopter. There used to be an observation area in the Boat Quay on top of one of the tall bank buildings. It has been closed since September 2001 for security reasons. My secret observation area offers better views and is FREE! It is the Equinox Restaurant inside the Swissôtel The Stamford (there are 2 Swissôtel’s in Singapore). The hotel is Southeast Asia's tallest hotel and you can see panoramic views of Singapore, Indonesia and parts of Malaysia! It’s on level 69 just to make it sound even more impressive. Here’s how I did it. Jo into the lobby of the hotel and go to the far left and you end up in a bar/lounge. Now go to the far right and at the end turn right. You should be looking at a small lobby with an elevator. Go inside and push the button for the top....

Walking Up Bukit Timah Hill - S'pore Highest Hill!

by kelnsha

Step into the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve today and you will see what Singapore used to be 180 years ago. The 163-hectare reserve retains one of the largest tracts of primary rainforest left in Singapore. There are four walking trails you can choose from in order to reach the summit. Get a free copy of the brochure from the visitor centre before making your way up. The forest has been a botanical collecting ground for more than a century, with the first known specimens of many species of Malayan plants obtained from it. Dr David Bellamy, a renowned conservationist, once pointed out that the number of plant species growing in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is more than that in the whole of North America!Bukit Timah is also home to Singapore's highest hill at 163.63 m. Composed mainly of granite, Bukit Timah Hill was once an active quarrying site in the mid-1900s. One abandoned quarry has...
