Oyster Omelettes

by lesaandbill

One of the best tips we received from a local was to try an oyster omelette. We went to an outdoor vendor along Orchard Road and realised the oyster omelette was the food in demand...there was a 10 minute queu. The wait was well worth the meal...and we loved it!

Botanical Gardens and National Orchid Collection

by TonyBagnall

Enjoy a walk in one of the world's best botanical gardens. Lots of parkland to walk around as well as more traditional botanical areas to admire. Excellent orchid collection - do not miss this it is probably the best bit! There are a tremendous number of orchids and when they are displayed all together like this the effect is simlpy stunning. See Snigapore's own breed of orchid. There is a reflexology path - so kick your shoes off and give it a go. Ideal for stimulating your tired feet. There is also an evolution walk that takes you thorough the stages of plant evolution from the colonisation of bare rock by lichens and mosses, via impressive tree-ferns right through to flowering plants. Nice little aromatic spice garden area too. Ginger garden interesting too - I never relaised there were so many different types!

Walk along the Singapore River embankments

by love2wander

The Singapore River is historic in the sense the economic life of Singapore began from here. Instead of its buzzling trading activities of the past, today much of the shophouses and warehouses fronting the river are preserved for the locals and visitors to enjoy its old charm. It is roughly divided into 3 sections:1) Boat Quay - full of international cusines for dining2) Clarke Quay - a larger variety of nitelife there besides dining3) Robertson Quay - further inland, a bit quieter but close to the bar strips of Mohamed Sultan. There are a few spots for fine dining too, especially from 5 star hotels located along the river. A few interesting scultpures along the riverside walks remind of the old days in Singapore river life. The Merlion Park is a short walk as it is situated at the river mouth.

Cycling in Pulau Ubin

by love2wander

Pulau Ubin is just north of Changi Airport. Unlike Sentosa, it is an idyllic place with many cycling tracks, granite quarry pools, rubber plantations and several beaches. It is a nice way to spend a day here. Hire a bicycle for about S$6 to S$10. Many durians trees can be seen along the tracks. There are several spots where cold refreshments are available. It is wise to use insect repellent to guard off mosquitoes. A sweat tower and sunglasses are very useful too.Finish your day with a seafood dinner at the village (near the ferry terminal). The local coffee is also good (check with the bicycle rental shop for recomendation).

An evening at the Esplanade

The Esplanade has wide open spaces and a nice place to view the city skyline and walking distance to the Singapore River, the Merlion Park. Every weekend, Friday - Sunday evenings, the Esplanade present live concert performance by the waterfront.

Paintball

by bladedragon

IT IS FUNNNN!!! Highly recommended for all those guys out there who had dreams of firing semi-auto weapons (prolly not applicable for those been thru military or national sevice though...).We paid about S$55/person for everything including 200 bullets. We played for about 1.5 hours in 3 sessions each separated by 5-10 min breaks. The first 2 sessions consist of 2 games where each team are suppose to shoot the opposing team's target (2 of them) and followed by carrying an ammo box back to their respective bases, the fastest one will win.The last session consist of 1 game with a different rule. When a person gets hit, he'll be transfered to the other team, it'll continue till one team will have only 1 member and the other team will have 9 (except if any of them run out of bullet).Too bad that they're just offering 1 type of weapon (semi-auto), looks like SMG type to me, but they have one...

eco friendly water sport activity

by Freiner

There is an artifical pond in the East Coast Park with an automatic lift for wake boarding and water ski. Rent equipment by the hour. Except from swimming trunks and a T-shirt for sun-protection you don't need anything. If you can refrain from screaming too loud it is eco-friendly :) and the local spectators have their fun too. They close 7 pm.

Nightlife for all ages

by maria_hz

Singapore being a fairly small island seems to be obsessed with preserving as much of it as it can for future generations. This benefits us tourists as well as the ever ingenious Singaporeans invented the first ever Night Safari for us to enjoy. This is a zoo experience with a difference, well liked by all ages. Many animals indigenous to tropical areas are nocturnal -- they are smart; why hunt in the heat of the day when you can rest and wait for the cooler night? Singapore offers this safari to show us the animals when they are active. With only minimal lighting and both walking trails as well as trams to take you through the rainforest, it really feels like being out there in the wild with the animals. There are also animal shows that are well worth seeing and shops selling the usual trinkets, as well as food outlets to satisfy basic needs of both young and old.Best go early when the...
