Visit the island of Pulau Ubin

by victorwkf

This island is located off the north-eastern shores of Singapore and is a very beautiful and relaxing place. The lifestyle here resembles Singapore about 30 years ago and it is like going back in history to the good old days where life is simple. To reach the island, you can take a short boat ride at the jetty near Changi Village. More information and photographs are at my VT Pulau Ubin page.

Dolphin Lagoon at Sentosa Island

by victorwkf

One of the main attractions of Sentosa Island is the Dolphin Lagoon where you can witness the performance by the pink Dolphins. The ticket to the dolphin show comes together with the entrance ticket to the famous Underwater World of Sentosa (S$19.50 adult and S$12.50 for children below 12 years). Do take note of the timings of the dolphin show and that the Dolphin Lagoon is located quite far away from the Underwater World. You need to take the red coloured bus at the entrance of the Underwater World and the journey takes about 10 minutes.

Singapore Zoo

by Nixter01

A great day out for all the family, singapore zoo has wildlife coming out of its ears and they really go to town with making it look realistic, for example, where the baboons are just abit further up they have made a Ethiopian Village and carved wooden people and made little huts, its really cool, there is also a show where there is a sea lion, an orangutan, snakes and more, the staff are fantastic and the animals are even better !It is a massive place and you will need your map....The ice cream is quite expensive ( I thought ) so we gave that a miss and just drank water ! OH WATER ~ Have plenty of it, being stuck in the middle of a rain forest is not the best place to be dehydrating !

WALKS: FOLLOW SINGAPORE RIVER

by xuessium

The lifeline of Singapore. Walk the stretch starting from the river mouth at One Fullerton, through the stately Fullerton Hotel, explore the Asian Civilisations Museum-Empress Place, discover Boat Quay and its labyrinth of pubs, bump into Sir Stamford Raffles at his landing site, stroll past the former Parliament House, gaze across the river at the Financial Heart of Singapore with the 2 tallest buildings in Singapore and end up at buzzing Clarke Quay. There are 7 pre-WW2 colonial era bridges on Singapore River. All of them comes with a history.Starting from the mouth of Singapore River: Anderson Bridge. This bridge was built to replace Cavenagh Bridge just a few walks away due to a calculation error when the architect of the day discovered that Cavenagh Bridge would not be able to support the weight of horse carriages.Anderson Bridge has its own story too. Renovation done in the 1980s...

Antique Safe in Singapore

by wintertea

Visit the One and Only Antique Safe workshop at 15, guilemard Road, Singapore! You can see many of the old antique safes that were being imported long ago by the germans/british/asia-hongkong/austria. The safe specialist had had more than 50 years of experience, these skills were learned by his father/grandfather! After being refurbished, these safes is being brought back to life! If you have a chance, go down to this workshop to look at it! The best part of the trip is you will get a chance to view/buy the safes from your own country! =)

Night Safari

by Brian&Sally

Easily a highlight of Singapore is the unique Night Safari, or Night Zoo. If believe it's one of only two or so such facilities in the world. It's a zoo that is designed to be visited at night, when not only is it a lot cooler but the animals are active rather than just sleeping as they tend to do during the day. You will also be able to see many nocturnal animals that you cannot see at a regular day zoo. Not only that, but the facilities for the animals are excellent, with large open spaces for them to roam in, and you don't feel sorry for them as you may (well, I do!) at a normal caged animal.Leave plenty of time, and aim to get there when the zoo opens otherwise you will not make it all the way around. It's not an exhaustive effort to cover the environs of the zoo (there is a motorised tram to take you around some of it), but you can't help lingering for ages at many of the exhibits...

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

by shinobu

This was a wonderful place. There's a boardwalk out over the mangrove swamp. At low tide you can watch all the mudskippers hopping around, and at high tide the trees are full of crabs that have crawled up and the archerfish are squirting water at insects below. If you go on the other trails there are monkeys, a family of otters in a pond (this is at blind 2A), huge monitor lizards bigger than people, and lots of interesting birds. The trails lead you to blinds to conceal yourself, and also towers to climb to get a view. Bring binoculars and mosquito repellent. The facility also provides an education room with books, a museum with displays, and a cafe with sandwiches and drinks.Negatives are a certain amount of trash that washes over from Malaysia (clearly visible across the water), and the wild dogs, which I don't think should be allowed. Getting there takes a while, on the MRT and bus,...
