Sentosa Island

by vic&michael

Sentosa Island is fun! From Singapore, ride the gondola over the sea, through a building, and onto Sentosa Island. Or, if you want, you could walk over the long bridge to the island! Sentosa has an Underwater World (Aquarium) where you can touch baby sharks and starfish and other fish... and a Butterfly Park (walk through a beautiful tropical garden with multicolored butterflies fluttering around you!), and the Famous Musical Fountain (sounds a bit lame, but it is so mesmerising, seeing the water and lights display dance to classical music.) Now, the Musical Fountain is more of a Laser Display. Awesome 3D images and underwater scenes come out of the Laser technology. Also, there is the huge Merlion, that you can climb up into and look over Singapore from it's mouth. At night, it shoots green laser light out it's eyes, kinda scary looking actually. Oooh, and in Sentosa, I got a chance to...

Chinese New Year shopping

by wen_viaggio

If you happen to be in Singapore in the month of January, you would notice that red is often the colour of the moment. This is due to the Chinese New Year festive season where malls deck their interiors with splashes of red (considered an auspicious colour among the Chinese) so as to reflect the mood of the season. Left: Takashimaya mall sees its indoor atrium being occupied by rows of mobile stalls selling Chinese New Year snacks and other goodies.

Singapore Night Safari Is A "Must See" Activity

by Confucius

How anxious was I to see the famous Night Safari? I went there directly from the airport! My flight from Hong Kong arrived at 19:40 and I took a taxi straight to the Singapore Zoo, where the night safari remains open until midnight. After the safari closed I was able to take a public bus to downtown Singapore and check into my hotel. This is a top quality attraction; definitely among the best things to do in the world.I was very impressed with the knowledgeable narration of the guide who rode along in the park's tram. After her tour ended it was time to go by foot and explore the walking trails. The night safari is located in the midst of one of Singapore's last remaining old growth jungles. You can see leopards, hyenas, lemurs, and other nocturnal creatures from Asia, Africa, and South America. Look for the giant anteater baby on exhibit with its mother beginning in June 2006.My favorite...

Eat Durian Pudding & Ice Cream

by vic&michael

Even if you have tried the "king of fruits" durian, and not liked it, you should try the durian pudding and ice-cream. It's not as pungent and creamy as the real fruit, and a lot of people who don't like the fruit, like the pudding/ice cream. Or maybe use it as a gentle introduction to durian.

Try some crazy-named drinks

by vic&michael

Whenever Michael and I go overseas, we always like to try new and crazy drinks (alcoholic or non-alcholic). The crazier the name, the better! ;- ) We were pleased to find 'Kick-a-poo Joy-Juice" drink in Singapore...tasted like lemon and limes. Very refreshing!

Eat at Clementi Central Hawker Center

by vic&michael

The food is so cheap and so tasty. ($1,2,or 3!) You really should try authentic Singapore food this way. The food stores are all labled with A,B,or C, according to their hygine standards. There are pictures of all that they offer, so just point and choose whatever looks tasty!

Have Breakfast with Orangutans

by vic&michael

At Singapore zoo, you can have breakfast with the orangutans. It costs about SG$13 for a buffet breakfast. What happens is, you get your coffee/breakfast and eat it, and while you are doing so, some zoo staff walk around and show you snakes that you can touch / hold, and then the orangutans come out and eat their fruit breakfast near you, while you oooh and ahhhh at them. Then you can take photos with them. I enjoyed seeing them so close up. And I learned that an orangutan is 5x stronger than a man! wow!

Hold a Snake in Sentosa

by vic&michael

This guy charges SG$5 for you to hold his boa constrictor. He doesn't hurry you for time though. You can hold and be amazed and take as many photos for a long time before he asks for his snake back. This snake was so heavy, I could feel its' muscles around me, It was a humbling experience to know that if it wanted to squeeze me, it could do it easily with it's strong muscles. I went from being hesitant/scared to feeling really elated at having a snake draped around me!You should try it!

Drink a Singapore Sling

by vic&michael

When in Singapore, you really must try a Singapore Sling drink. I tried it only recently...and my aunties, who live in Singapore, tried it for the first time with me! My honest opinion? Too sweet...too much cherry flavor. But, if you are a lover of sweet cherry flavor? You might love it!!
