Sentosa - great or not?

by francis0927

First time I went to Singapore I didn't go to Sentosa. After going back to the Philippines, friends were asking if I've been there. So I thought I might have missed a lot because of my failure to visit Sentosa. On my second visit to Singapore, me and a girl friend went to visit Sentosa. It was a pleasant visit though a little expensive... it was worth it not because of what Sentosa has to offer but because of the company of my friend. In short, Sentosa might not be that great... though it has some nice things too...

TAXIS

by Tattugran

dont try to catch a cab (taxi) between 10.30pm and midnight... they refuse to stop because they know the later it gets the more they can charge you.......we learnt the hard way..... try and catch a taxi before this time..... will save you money and hassles.......

Volcano without lava !!!

by GK2005

One of the main attractions for any visitor to Singapore is the Sentosa islands. This island is indeed a haven from the crowds of the city on any week day though the weekends are very crowded. There are many attractions within Sentosa and unlike other theme parks in the world, Sentosa prices admission to every single attraction separately. This works out to be okay if you want to visit only one or two attractions. However, if you plan on visiting every one of them, then it turns out to be quite expensive. One of the attractions thats NOT worth its admission even if its S$1 is the VolcanoLand in Sentosa. The admission price is S$10 which makes you wonder whether you are going to have a real life volcanic experience. However, once you step inside, you feel like you have been taken for a ride as there is neither an experience nor a resemblance of a volcano anywhere. You kinda start to...

See for yourself!

by TracyG

There are certain companies that offer bus trips around the city for quite a hefty price that really aren't worth the money. Shop around, and if you fly with Singapore Airlines you can go on a free sightseeing tour, just show your ticket. It is much easier to walk or jump on the bus/MRT. Singapore is very cheap and easy to get around.

No discovery at the Discovery Centre

by xuessium

Packaged as a fun-filled location for the entire family, it is anything but that with stale exhibits masquerading as thrilling experiences. Never an exciting moment. Well, go for the electronic shooting simulator; that's about as close as you can get to touching firearms in Singapore. Go to the Bird Park. Skip this.

Sim Lim Square - Something to beware of

by vyxxyn

An ideal venue for electronics shopping only if you are fully aware of the latest technology and prevailing market prices. Otherwise you may fall prey to sellers who may push unsellable models/items at ridiculously high prices to you because they know you're a foreigner and think you have too much money! And they're pretty good at convincing you to buy. Therefore it may be wise to browse through shops like Best Denki (Takashimaya has one) or Fu Nan Centre where goods have fixed prices first, budget about 3-4 hours for that.At Sim Lim Square, bargain bargain bargain, although they may tell you "fixed price". We locals bargain there all the time.

Singapore could be a tourist trap

by ahcoln

Singapore itself could be a big tourist trap. 3 days 2 nights could be appropriate or enough for a visit in Singapore, stretch over a week is a bit too long. That's why Singapore is well-known as a stopover in Asia Pacific but not being the hot destination like Thailand & Malaysia. What you can find it here could also be found in countries mentioned within the same region, but in a much more higher expenses. So the conclusion is : like it or hate it. Don't stay too long if you are in budget travel. Come to Singapore after year 2009, some big projects are going on. Singapore have a very fine air line system and Singapore Changi Airport is one of the world's best airport. It is good to treat Singapore as a gateway to South East Asia. If you like shopping, shop somewhere else.

Cheap CDs and VCDs

by vinc_seah

Cheap CDs and VCDs can be found in many places in Singapore. Often, each of these CD/VCD costs about $3 - $4 dollars. Be warned that the music in these CDs are not sung by original artistes, even though the cover may feature the faces of the artistes.I have personally tried these CDs/VCDs and have found none to be up to standard. So, my suggestion to you is not to purchase them. Original CDs/VCDs are priced between $8 - $20 per piece. Use this as a rough guide to buying quality products.Major stores selling original stuff includes Sembawang, Gramophone, CD-Rama and Borders Music.

Merlion @ Sentosa and Esplanade

by bpacker

Kitsch - I can't think of a better word to describe it. Can't understand why tourists insist on taking shots of it and proceed to buy little replicas of it on a keychain. The equivilent would be the little mermaid in Copenhagen. Walk to the spiky-looking building beside the statue ( the Esplanade ) and go to the coffee joint at the library (NLB@ Esplanade) .See the Singapore River and the merlion from there as you sip on a latte. Cakes and coffee will distract you from the statue in about 5 seconds. Go to Esplanade, theatres on the bay. It's just next to the Merlion. Don't let the ugly spiky exterior put you off, the interior has the state-of the art sound and light system that will blow your socks off.
