Singapore is less expensive then Italy
Is a common believe that Singapore is a very expensive city. Well, I slept for 14 Euro and I eat to satisfaction with 6 Euro. Same things are totaly impossible in Italy, simply we don't have such chip prices.

The Merlion fountain may be a Singapore landmark, but it's pretty lame as a tourist attraction. A cheaply made half-lion half-fish that looks like it's vomiting into the harbor. Pretty unimpressive considering all the hype it gets. The Merlion is passed off as some kind of old Singapore legend, but in reality it was created not long ago by the tourism people as a way to promote the country. As such, you will see the Merlion appear on t-shirts, hats, mugs, pens, ashtrays, stuffed animals, paper weights, and all other tacky souvenirs. Go in the mid-afternoon, that way after you're done taking the obligatory photos of the fountain you can head into the Fullerton Hotel for their excellent high-tea. Go across the river to the Asian Civilizations Museum, which has to be the best Asian cultural museum in the world.

The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum in the Singapore Chinese Gardens is a blantant example of animal cruelty. The museum tries to convince you that its purpose is to educate people about the wide variety of turtle and tortoise species in the world, but in reality is more of a turtle prison. The turtles, especially the large ones, are kept in very cramped little containers, some of which are so small that the turtles can barely turn around. Many of them are struggling wildly to free themselves. Several are out in the open with the sun beating down on them and the little water that they are left in looks foul. Truly a disgusting place. Please do not go and support this kind of cruelty.Granted, go to any wet market in Singapore and you can see live turtles for sale as food, but at least their suffering only lasts until they are mercifully butchered for someone's dinner.

A 4% Goods & Services Tax is levied on most goods and services purchased from taxable retailers. Quoted prices of merchandise include GST. Combined purchases of SGD 300 or more (with a minimum of SGD 100 spent at a shop or different outlets of the same retail chain displaying the "Tax Free Shopping" logo) are eligible for a refund of the GST paid on goods not consumed in Singapore. Refunds must be processed at the airport only prior to departure flights with proof of purchase and inspection of goods.
After several visits to Singapore I have concluded that Chinatown is a total tourist trap. It seems strange anyway to have a designated Chinatown area when 77% of the population are Chinese. It reminds me of a Disneyworld version of Chinatown these days - quite artificial. It is full of tourists and accordingly there are scam artists everywhere to extract tourist dollars. Take a look around and visit the Chinatown Heritage Centre for an appreciation of Chinese immigration to Singapore and how things used to be. Hop on the MRT down to Paya Lebar station and walk down to and along the Geylang Road toward Kallang. What you will see along this stretch of road is a much more authentic Chinatown experience.

When visiting Singers, I can assure you a trip with a riksja is worth doing but be careful when paying. Don't take out two kinds of money, cause as you just arrived you would have no clue about the difference between all sorts of Dollars. I was to pay ten S$ but also took out a bill of 10 US$. The guy from the riksja suddenly took my US$ bill and took off saying thank you... I realized a bit too late so don't let it happen to you :-)
Many tourist like to go to Lucky Plaza or Sim Lim Square to get electronics stuff. Unless the price is stated clearly, it would be best to check out the prices at the department stores before venturing to these places. Check out the price of the same model in a reliable department store and promotions, if any.
Singapore feels like the shopping capital of the world. Every where you look there are more and more malls. Guess what...........they all seemed the same. I found bargains very hard to come by. Spend two hours in Orchard Road to satisfy your curiosity.
This is a small island to the south of the City, which offers "a myraid of leisure pursuits". There are beaches, exhibitions, golf courses, a big swimming pool complex.....all sorts of things. We were really disappointed - everything just seemed in need of a bit of tender loving care. It was very very quiet, and a lot of things seemed to be shut. Maybe we just timed it badly? It might be better at a weekend.....
Yes, ok, so it's THE place to sip your Singapore Sling, but it will cost you an arm and a leg!!!! Still, it's one of those things that you have to do once in your life... Grin & bear it....and don't look at the bill! Just have the one, then head off to Clarke Quay for a cheaper drink!
