by talullah

I enjoy theme parks and I was more than happy to set aside time to visit Escape Theme Park in Pasir Ris, Singapore. They should've called it 'Escape THIS Theme Park'. What a waste of time and money. It was so small and most of the rides are for kids. Even the food wasn't anything to be smiling about. I don't think even the locals waste their time there.

SENTOSA - There's nothing much to do at Sentosa for the time being, but there are many plans for the island soon.If you really MUST go, visit the Merlion ($3 Adult, $2 Child), take a ride on the Monorail (Free) and Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom ($8 Adult, $5 Child), Fort Siloso ($5 Adult, $3 Child), Underwater World ($17 Adult, $11 Child), Musical Fountain (Free), Siloso Beach & Sunset Bay (Free) where all the sun-kissed hunks and babes hang out and play volleyball and other beach games.FORGET ABOUT VOLCANOLAND ($12 Adult, $6 Child) and CINEMANIA ($12.50 Adult, $8 Child) - TOTAL RIP-OFFS!

The tourist traps that I found were the obvious, Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood. I went there on a Saturday night and they tried to charge me $12 for a beer, thats about £4.70 and that is only half a pint!!

Sentosa Island. This is my personal opinion. I really disliked it here. It is artificial, the beaches are constructed (the sand was put there). There are quite a few things there to do but I just didn't enjoy the plastic atmosphere. The photo was taken from the cable are the goes to the island. That was the best experience of the day.

The Long Bar at Raffles Hotel - the home of the Singapore Sling and a production line for them! Try doing as I did - go there so you can at least say you've been, but order everything except what the bar staff expect. It makes for a far more entertaining visit!

by keiji

Do scout around in a few shops when you're buying any equipment or electronics e.g. cameras, televisions etc. and do not give in when the sales person starts to pressure you into buying. Some shops overcharge tourists at ridiculous prices and the goods can be faulty or damaged. Some of those shops even resort to pressure sales e.g. trying to make you feel bad and thus buy from them after they gave you lengthy explainations on goods, or even refusing to let you out of the shops. Well, not sure if these are true since I heard it from other people and read some articles in the newspapers, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Never take a taxi in singapore...

by lovedave

Never take a taxi in singapore if u are a tourist, the trains (MRT) and buses are very safe and convenient. Get a road map (available free in major shopping centres, and buy a bus guide (costs a few dollars) and u are free to explore Singapore. Some taxis have a tendency to rip off tourist by travelling the longer route to chalk up higher fares. Taxis also have confusing peak hours surcharges that are not understanable for tourists or locals alike.

Taxi again. This time it is the mercedes Taxi. Higher charges for mercedes benz Taxi apply only if you booked them up through phone or agent. Normal regular taxi fares apply if you flag them down from the streets or outside your hotel. Some mercedes benz taxis asked for higher price when they see tourists outside their hotel door steps, sometimes they will say that very few taxis are available at such hours and place; never hop into such taxis as there are many normal taxis at just a few metres away.

by arasan

1)Any unused mileage on the MRT/bus pass available at Any MRT station can be cashed in on leaving Singapore. We were not told this on purchasing the card (which can also be topped up over and above the initial charge) but tried it anyway, and were refunded a whole lot of dollars.Save a lot of money.2)The airport shuttle service from Changi Airport into the centre of Singapore costs S$7. Please note that this is the airport shuttle desk price; if you try to book a journey away from the airport shuttle desk it will cost you about S$30. 3)Singapore Airlines operates an SIA hop-on bus service that goes round and round a circular route, stopping at various interest points (eg, Suntec City, Sri Mariamman Temple, Botanic Gardens etc). A timetable is published and the service is free to Singapore Airline passengers on presentation of an airline ticket. A fare is charged to others.
