Have someone told you about...

by Huimei

Have someone told you about Newton Circus/Food Centre? Hawkers tend to charge high prices for the seafood there if they know you are a tourist. So, check out the prices first before you order and avoid buying from those hawkers who 'hawk' after your money!

sentosa island...not for backpackers on a budget...can easily blow US $ 30 and really at the end of the day you have not really seen anything that you cannot see anywhere else in the world.and the beaches are not even that great!

by johno36

I feel Singaporians take advantage of the tourist in the following aspects. I bought two watches in Coleman Street shopping centre and upon inspecting it when I got home the batteries was flat. In the same street under our hotel I purchased a camera only to find the same camera illustrated in a newspaper, much cheaper than in the shop. In fact the same camera was for sale at Harvey Norman at the reduced price.

THE Salon501 Orchard...

by zae

THE Salon501 Orchard Road#02-23 Wheelock PlaceSingaporeThis is to warn international visitors about GEORGIE YAM, Managing Director, and THE Salon on Orchard Road. On my most recent visit to Singapore, Georgie left my hair 6 centimeters (close to two and a half inches) shorter on one side than the other. And all I asked for was a half-inch trim!!!  Moreover, he instructed one of his technicians to bleach my hair to the scalp (again a misinterpretation of my wanting to retain my natural color) and handed me a final bill of over SGD 300. This, unfortunately, was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth about all Singaporeans and the whole of Singapore. I'd be willing to let these misdeeds go (we all have bad days; and my hair will e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y grow in); but Georgie has failed to respond to my request for a refund on my credit card. Because I am not a local resident, he apparently has...

Attention to all shopper...

by Greenery

Attention to all shopper holics!!! Please be aware that tourist can bargain for prices even if there is a fixed tag being attached on the item. Never buy items that do not have a tag attached on it cause the shop can raise the price of te items. E.g. Far East Plaza and Queensway shopping centre. I feel that big departmental outlets's prices are reliable. E.g.CK Tang, Metro etc. But do not forget to compare prices if you have the time to do so. In order help tourist to shop at ease, Singapore Gold Circle is a programme implemented by the Singapore Tourism Board. It recognises the best stores and service providers in Singapore. The Singapore Gold Circle ensures that shops, travel agencies, spas, restaurants and attractions have got what it takes to make your visit memorable. They have clear exchange or refund policies, fair pricing, well-managed outlets and great service. You only have to...

When ask by store owners...

by Adeline_Foo

When ask by store owners where you stay while you are shopping, don't tell them unless you want them to deliver the goods to your hotel. Store owners ask this question to access where you are staying and also an indication to them whether they will quote you a higher price. If you stay at some expensive hotel, the price will shoot up (assuming the store doesn't practice price tagging) The trick is to sound like a local, try telling them you stay in Clementi (pronounced 'Clementee'), or Bishan (pronounced ' Bee Shun'). Not everyone is that scheming. Just some black sheeps.

by Adeline_Foo

Far East Shopping Centre & Lucky Plaza offer great deals but then again they have the most shops black listed by the local Tourist Promotion Board. Avoid the 'fast, cheap & Armani cut' tailors in these building.

If you go to a store to buy...

by cheapskate

If you go to a store to buy some electronics, it'll probably be the cheapest in the region or in the rest of the world for that matter. Don't worry about getting swindled. At the singapore airport, get a guide which tells u which stores that have cheated tourists before so at least you'll be warned first. Anyway, chances of getting cheated is as good as zilch.. most businessmen wouldn't risk their reputation to have the stores blacklisted!

by Libs

Although I personally am in favour of Sentosa, I personally think taking the cable car is kind of pointless, considering that there are cheaper ways to get there. It does afford decent views of Singapore Harbour, worlds busiest (superlatives, superlatives!) but IMHO isn't really worth it.
