Singapore Air's Hop-On Bus

by TexasDave

If you fly in on Singapore Air you can take advantage of the reduced fare, S$3, per person, per day for unlimited use of the Hop-On bus which does a circular route passing by most of the tourist sites. They pass by about every 20-30 minutes from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm. Tickets are bought from the bus driver and you are asked to show a boarding pass to get the discount. The service is available to non-Singapore Air customers, but the price is S$12 per person, which is probably still a good value if you use it the full day.

How to get to sentosa island

by hash09

To get there, you simply can take MRT and drop yourself at harbourfront, then walk to harbour tower, from harbour tower you can take cable crain to the island, but it come with the package which they already arrange it, the cost for the package are around SGD40-SGD80. You also can take bus, which is just across the street of harbour tower, the bus was free, but you have to pay for admission fees which cost at SGD3 or you also can take other package. You also can take taxi, but not many people take taxi to get to the island. If you prefer to have a ride with cruise, just walk along the harbour shopping mall, they have sell the cruise ticket there, i am not sure how much, but you can take a look when u get there :P

Taxis

by reshmi

Taxis are relatively cheap in Singapore. If you have 3-4 passengers in the taxi it can even work out cheaper than taking public transport. All taxis use a meter, so there's no problems with prices. At night time (around 10-12pm) it can be difficult to hail down a taxi as they're usually all full. If you can't hail a taxi down or the taxi queues are far too long, you can book one to come and pick you up. Get the phone number from the taxis you see drive past.

Bus Fares

by reshmi

Getting TO/AROUND: If you are purchasing a ticket on the bus, you must have coins on you. You won't get any change back to it's best to find out how much the fare is prior to your bus trip so that you don't end up over-paying. Also, you should hail the bus, otherwise it might not stop for you.

MRT

by reshmi

The most efficient way to get around Singapore is by using the MRT (train network). The train stations are clean and safe, as are the trains. You can buy your train ticket from a machine at the station. All tickets are for one way journeys. If you're not a regular MRT user, then you will usually have to put a S$1 deposit for your ticket card (it's made out of plastic), and you can get that S$1 back after you've finished your train journey. The trains run regularly from early morning until around midnight. Even late at night, I felt quite safe travelling alone on the train.

Taxi tips

by Flipboy

Taking a cab in singapore can be a tiring experience. The cab driver can be very polite but at the same time down right annoying. Complaints: They like to complain about other drivers on the road while making the same mistake (I think this is part of the human condition). Change: When a cab pics you up and you have just visited a cash machine don't always expect them to be able to break a $50. Numerous times I have gotten into a cab only to have him take me to my destination and make me look for someone to split the bill. This is quite annoying when you are coming home from work and there are no shop around your place. The killer is that when you put up a fus all of a sudden they have exact change! To run a business one must be able to give change to ones customer.Credit Card: Although all cabs state on the window that they except credit cards, this may not be the case when you arrive at...

Taxi tips cont'd

by Flipboy

Directions: To start off, cab drivers in Singapore tend to be very lazy. If they don't know where the location is their suggestion may just be to find another cab that does. I had such a driver and I asked if he had a map and he said yes, so look at it! He proceeded to hand the map to my wife, I told him to find the place cause we don't drive and are not gainfully employed to. So, in the end, it took him all of ten seconds to find the place on the map.The Good: Cab drivers here are honest and know the roads well. You don't need to worry about them taking you for a "ride" and as long as the location is in the city or close enough they are pretty good to know where to go.Disclaimer: When you tell the cabby where you want to go he is more likely than not to ask your prefered route. Don't be worried about not knowing, as I said before the cab drivers are mostly honest when it comes to...
