Taxi surcharge

by TonyBagnall

It can be difficult to get a taxi sometimes so instead of standing on the side of the street unsucessfully trying to hail a taxi you can queue up outside a hotel, this way you should get a taxi more quickly. If you are really in a hurry get the hotel to phone a taxi for you, there will be a few dollars surcharge for this service though, so expect a higher than normal taxi fare

Taxi to Sani airport Johor Bahru in malaysia

by TonyBagnall

We booked an airasia flight out of Senai. Other tips will enlighten you on how to get the bus. We wanted to reserve a cab, but you can only catch them from a special stand. We eventually found it from another tip on VT (our hotel knew nothing about it, except advising we take one of their cars for 200 SGD) and ordered the cab, then had to make another trip down there the next day! All a bit tedious, so I thought I'd post the number of our driver in case someone else wants to do the same, at least cut out the need for one of the trips R. ChellaH/P 012-717-2022from singapore add 02 he was ok, although we may have over paid (charged us 55 SGD)

In the old days trishaws are a convenient form of transport in neighbourhoods. Today its existence is to serve the visitors who enjoy a slow ride to admire the street scenes. Many of the trishaws are equip with hifi too.A place where alot of trishaw congregate is at the Queen Street Hawker food center. Across the road there are several fruits stalls and a shopping alley.

Moving about in Singapore

by love2wander

Singapore has a good network of public transport. The Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) covers the east to the west and south to north of the island. Construction is in progress of a circle line to extend the network further. For visitors there is a day ticket for unlimited travel. It provide a fast and convenient way to get about. If you go to places off the main MRT lines, taxis are always available at any MRT stations.Out of central area, the tracks are eleveted and one can gather a good general impression of Singapore in the aircon comfort of the train.

EZ-Link Card

by Vita500

The EZ-Link Card is a stored-value smartcard, similar to the Octopus Card of Hong Kong or the T-Money of Seoul.EZ-Link Cards can be used for traveling with the MRT, LRT as well as buses and was mainly introduced to speed up boarding times on buses and facilitate transfer from one mode of transportation to the other.Just like most other smartcards, the EZ-Link cards can also be used for payments at McDonald's, at certain supermarkets, food courts and libraries. Starting fare for EZ-Link Card users is S$ 0.65.A S$1.00 refundable deposit is charges for each card and can be collected at any GTM (ticket machine) within 30 days of purchase. Alternatively, the card can also be left at a charity collection box, thereby donating the S$1.00 deposit.

MRT (subway)

by Vita500

Singapore's MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) subway network is one of the most modern and most efficient, covering almost the entire territory and transporting around a quarter of Singapore's entire population on a daily basis. It currently has a total of 64 stations and is complemented by the LRT (Light Rapid Transit), a light rail system servicing as feeder for the MRT from certain public housing estates.Tip for airport passengersTake the MRT (East-West Line) from changi Airport to downtown Singapore. It's an easy, fast and inexpensive way to reach the city. The MRT station is in Terminal 2.FaresFares are calculated based on distance. Lowest fare is S$0.90, highest fare is S$1.90.Discounts can be achieved by the use of the EZ-Link Card (see separate tip for further details).

Taxi's from Singapore to mainland Malaysia

by kaitakkid

To get to mainland Malaysia by taxi across the causeway from Singapore, you will need to locate a Malaysian taxi as Singapore based taxi's do not go over the border. There are Malaysian taxi's in a rank at the bus terminus that can be booked the day before and will collect you from your Singapore hotel, they will give you the relevant immigration cards to complete in advance, it then makes for a very speedy customs clearance upon entry to Malaysia.Hire cars can be picked up in Jahore for use in Malaysia.....do not hire from Singapore unless you propose returning them to the same collection point. If you need any more info ref Singapore / Malaysia please feel free to email me.

Taxi from Train station

by Aussieben

I arrived at Singapore train station 11 or so at night and was greeted by a "taxi" driver offering a life for 20SGD, approx 12 USD. It was only 1 km away (Little Chinatown). Catch a metered cab, expect to pay no more than 5SGD to get to Chinatown and 12 to India/orchard road.

Ribena Bus

by Nixter01

Prices are ridiculously cheap on the buses, its only about $10 if not less to go where ever, and you can buy cards which when you enter the bus you just zap them against the machine, it takes the amount of your limit and off you go, so much easier than standing paying in a queue
