Taxi at mid-night

by Chyan

Singapore is not a 24-hour city for bus travel. So, taxi travel becomes the norm for mid-night travel. It costs SGD18.00 to SGD25.00., including surcharge for travel from Ang Mo Kio to Changi Airport Terminal 1, to and fro, for example. A Maxicab accommodating 6 passengers on-arrival from overseas costs SGD7.00 each for travel to the city centre.

Budget airlines & cheap flights

by idy

If you want or need to fly cheap, consider travelling on budget airlines. They offer flights out of Singapore to many destinations in the region. However, you'll only be able to get the cheapest deals if you book early and/or you purchase/travel within a promotional period and/or fly on off-peak days. Also, you'll need to pay for the tickets immediately (on credit/debit) or within a couple of days or your booking will be void. Generally, there are no in-flight meals but passengers can purchase food and drinks on board. There is also no entertainment, but passengers can rent portable entertainment systems for amusement.Tiger Airways www.tigerairways.com- destinations include cities in Thailand, Vietnam, China, the Philippines and even Australia. Tiger operates out of the new Budget Terminal at the Changi Airport.Jetstar Asia www.jetstarasia.com- destinations include cities in Thailand,...

To/from the Airport and your Hotel

by Jazzop

Don't pay big bucks and pre-pay for your transfers. When you get through customs there is a transportation desk nearby (clearly signed). It costs S$7.00 each way between the airport and hotel and you can pre-book your return trip with the driver. There were four of us with lots of luggage so we got a whole van for S$35.00 each way.

Subway

by Jazzop

The subway is great. Nice and cheap and like everything else in Singapore, cheap. You buy your ticket from a vending machine and you get a card which you tap on top of the gates to get in and out. When you've finished with the card you insert it into the vending machine and get a dollar back.Everyone lines up at designated points waiting for the train.

Cabs are clean, easy and cheap

by Jazzop

Cabs are reallt good value in Singapore. The drivers all seem to speak at least a bit of English (at least the ones who drove me) and were friendly. The cars are clean and even though the traffic seems to be busy, you seem to keep moving quickly.

Bus/MRT/LRT and travel cards Part 1

by canttaketheskyfromme

Although there are two transit companies in Singapore, services are fully integrated, so what goes here applies to both.EZ-Link:The first thing to do in Singapore is get yourself an EZ-Link card. These are "stored value" electronic cards that you credit with money at top-up machines or counters at MRT stations and then you simply tap at a card reader as you enter exit the buses or MRT/LRT. As you exit the correct fare is automatically taken off the card. This makes it much easier, particularly on buses as you don't have to have the correct change or keep asking what he fare is to where you want to go. The Customer Service Counter at Changi MRT sells cards to new arrivals. Cost is $15 for a new card, which includes $7 of credit. You can return the card when you leave to get any unused credit and $2 "deposit" back. On the MRT simply tap the card on top of the ticket gate when you enter and...

Getting to Changi Airport

by xuessium

The cheapest way is to take the MRT (subway). But it is not necessary the fastest way. The fare is maximum S$1.70. You will have to take the East-West Green line and switch to the Expo-Airport sub-line at Tanah Merah MRT station (Station E4). From the city, the journey should take about 40 minutes. For train schedule: SMRT Travel TimeTaxi from the city will take about 25 minutes and the fare should be around S$11-S$14.

Getting to Pulau Ubin

by xuessium

Getting to Pulau Ubin is easy. You could get on Bus No.2 and stay all the way till it reaches its terminal at Changi Village. You can also take the MRT to Tanah Merah MRT station and board bus No.2 from there. (It will be a 30-40 minutes journey). Once at Changi Village, look for the Changi Village Jetty (a little way down from the Hawker Centre and opposite Changi Beach) and board the bumboats for S$2 one way from Singapore to Pulau Ubin. Passport is not needed as Pulau Ubin is within Singapore territory. To get a deeper idea about Pulau Ubin, please kindly access my SINGAPORE LEAFLET: PULAU UBIN
