Onward Bound for Malacca, Malaysia

by xuessium

The bus terminal for the coaches from Singapore to Malacca is located neat Lavender MRT Station, directly opposite the Singapore Casket Building. Take the MRT to Lavender Station and exit towards Jalan Besar. It's a 12-18 minutes walk from there. 2 coaches (Singapore-Melaka Express & Transnasional) operate from there (please refer to URL below). Public bus services 61, 107, 133 and 145 also stops at the bus stops very near to the terminal.Time table for the Singapore-Melaka Express coach (Tel: 65-62922436; no known website):(Adult = S$11.00 Child= S$5.50)8.00am, 9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am, 2.00pm, 3.00pm(Sat only), 4.00pm & 5.00pm There are 2 hotels near this bus terminal. They are Hotel 81-Lavender and Hamilton Hotel. (I have not stayed in them before so I have no reviews if they are any good)Some other private coaches also ply this route:Konsortium, Hasry & Gunung RayaMost of them have...

SIA HOP ON BUS

by aussiejen

The Singapore Airlines Hop-on bus is a great way to get around Singapore. If you have your SIA boarding pass it will only cost you $3, for other passengers it is $8.....still very good value. The air-conditioned buses run every half hour from 9am - 6pm every day.Pick up a leaflet at your hotel so you can decide where to get on and off the bus. An added bonus is the map on this leaflet, I used it constantly. It takes about an hour and a half to do the whole trip without getting off the bus. Lots of fun getting off at designated stops when something catches your eye.You can't miss these buses they are very colourful!! Some of them have bottles of water (very cheap) or umbrellas for sale.

Bukit Timah Station (KTM)

by canttaketheskyfromme

You will find on some timetables a second KTM station shown in Singapore at Bukit Timah. There is a station here but it is a passing point on the line only, you cannot board or leave trains here anymore. Similarly at Woodlands Checkpoint you cannot join or leave the journey, it's simply a stop for immigration formalities to be carried out.

KTM Trains in Singapore (Important!)

by canttaketheskyfromme

IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU PURCHASE A TICKET FROM KTM IN SINGAPORE YOU WILL PAY THE SAME PRICE FOR THAT TICKET IN S$ AS YOU WOULD RM IN MALAYSIA (TWICE THE PRICE!). TRAVEL TO JB FIRST THEN BUY YOUR TICKET THERE (OR ONLINE) FOR YOUR JOURNEY FROM JB TO FINAL DESTINATION.Note that if you arrive in Singapore via KTM (Malaysian InterCity train services) you will arrivie at Tanjong Pagar station. This is NOT connected to the Tanjoing Pagar MRT. It's quite a long walk (the better part of a kilometre). The station is located on Keppel Road (Underneath the unlovely Ayer Rajah elevated expressway) and really doesn't show the best of the city when you first arrive. The Singaporean government has been trying to persuade KTM to move the station to a newer site, closer to the MRT for years. To get from the station to the city centre take one of the following buses: #10 (towards Tampines), #57 (towards...

Taxis

by vic&michael

It is so cheap and convienient to catch a taxi in Singapore, and to go anywhere around the island will cost you between SG$2 to SG$12. All you do is wait at a taxi stand, or flag one down on the street! There are always taxis driving by. The taxi drivers that I've experienced have been really friendly and full of good advice about what to see and eat in Singapore. They are really interesting people to talk to.

Singapore River cruise via bumboats

by victorwkf

One of the best way to experience the famous Singapore River and the surrounding city and harbour area is to go on a ride on one of the traditional bumboats (see photo) which used to tansport cargoes in the Singapore River till the late 1980s. The ticketing counters are located near to Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, and this is not to be missed when you are in Singapore.

Taxi

by victorwkf

There are lots of taxis in Singapore and the drivers are well-trained and communicate in English. Taxis in Singapore are also very safe and affordable (fare starts at S$2.40 and the fare from airport to city is about S$25). More information on the telephone numbers to call the various taxis are at http://www.infotaxi.org/city-353.htm

Clean, cool and easy to navigate.

by JoelWillTravel

Singapore's MRT system is fantastic, really easy to use, really cheap and more importantly..........really cooool!More or less the same set up as any other subway system really but about 10 times cleaner (see pics). Plenty of maps around the place, user friendly ticket machines. You can be at most places within a few minutes!

Singapore Taxis

by JoelWillTravel

Absolutely no messing from these guys, the best taxi drivers I've ever come across. Safe, clean, friendly and will not rip you off. Once you get in there is a screen with all the info of your journey, full name of driver, distance, destination etc. You can easily just wave your hand anywhere for them to stop, these guys are also very cheap unlike taxis in my country.

T A X I S & M R T

by June.b

The best taxis I have ever encountered are in Singapore. Affordable, clean and honest drivers. All meters are working perfectly, and will give you your exact change. Tips are not sanctioned.Unless you wanted to be delivered right on the doorstep of your hotel, another fast, cheap, clean, safe and reliable transport option around Singapore is the MRT & LRT trains, 3 MRT lines & 2 LRT lines. You can take the MRT from the Changi Airport to the city center too for cheaper transfer.Train runs starting around 6AM upto midnight.
