Train

by bonio

Left Singapore by train, heading for Kuala Lumpur. The service is run by Malaysian Railways and takes somewhere between 7 and 8and a half hours depending on track work. It's a great ride through jungle and mostly small towns up to the outskirts of KL. Worth paying the small amout extra to travel first class with aircon.

Buses MRT/LRT and EzLink Part 3

by canttaketheskyfromme

Buses:The bus system is good, but not for the uninitiated. TransitLink doesn't seem to like route maps for buses and as such working out exactly what route the bus goes ot it's destinations is a mystery to the newcomer. The front of the bus sometimes carries just a route number, as do smaller bus stops (main stops have a full stop list). The TransitLink Guide helps decode the mystery (a list of main destinations in the front lists all service that serve them) and don't be afraid to ask. All buses have a small route plate by the front door listing all main roads/areas it serves. Most buses are A/C. A handful of non a/c routes still exist, but are being changed. Fares on non a/c routes are slightly lower. Cash fares must be exact change only, EZlink machines don't dispense tickets, cash does.

MRT around the island.

by zafilm

Connecting town and heartlands,MRT (Mass rapid Transit)is fast and affordable transportation in Singapore.SMRT operates two main rail lines, the North South Line which runs from Marina Bay Station to Jurong East Station via Woodlands Station, and the East West Line which runs from Pasir Ris Station to Boon Lay Station. If you wish to connect to the North East Line, simply change trains at Dhoby Ghaut Station or Outram Park Station. For commuters headed to the Singapore Expo Centre or travellers bound for Singapore Changi Airport, hop on board the Singapore Changi Airport Express which calls at Tanah Merah Station. To locate an MRT station, simply look out for MRT signs displayed along main roads and the beacons and signs prominently displayed outside stations. You can do so at any TransitLink Ticket Office. The minimum top-up value is $10, while the maximum stored value allowed is $100....

MRT

by battra

Subway/metro in Singapore is run by SMRT. There are currently 3 lines (North-South Line, East-West Line, North East Line) with another one still under construction. Popular shopping destinations are concentrated around the interchange of these 3 lines while residential areas are located towards the outer end of line. There are 3 types of tickets: ez-link card, standard ticket, visitors card. The ez-link card is a contactless stored value ticket for use on the MRT, LRT and the buses. You can buy the card from any ticket office at most MRT Stations at S$15. The price consists of S$5 card cost (non-refundable), S$3 travel deposit (refundable), and S$7 stored value (refundable). You can check the remaining value each time you enter the bus, walk past the gantry at MRT stations, or using the top-up machine at any stations. Topping-up the card value can be done at any ticket office. Travelling...

MRT

by Scarlie

The cheapest way to get around Singapore is by the MRT (Mass Rapid Transport -- very aptly named BTW). It's easy, regular and quick. Lots of people tho, and like everywhere getting on the train might assisted by elbows. The price of the ticket varies by the distance (zone) and getting a loaded card (SMART CARD) works out cheaper than individual tickets. The card is valid for 7 years!! You pay a deposit, part of which is refundable, and can get whatever travel value you haven't used. For example:- Initial travel value 7S$- Deposit refundable 3S$- Deposit non-refundable 5S$total : 15S$You can top up the card any time, as well as use it as payment method in some places for things like coffee.

Buses into Johor Bahru, Malaysia

by xuessium

BUSThe rough-it-out way to get into Johor Bahru is to take the Causeway Link bus, the Singapore-Johore Express or Singapore's SBS Bus service 170. The last 2 terminate at Ban San Street near Bugis MRT station. The terminal is behind a church (The Church of the Lady of Good Lourdes). Service CW2 of the Causeway Link bus also terminates here.Bus 170 takes a long time to get pass the causeway as it picks up passengers along the way as long as you don't mind seeing Singapore from South to North. The journey takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. The fare is S$1.70. The bus terminates at Larkin Terminal over at Johor Bahru, which is a little middle of nowhere. Get off after clearing customs on the Johor Bahru side - you are already in the thick of things. The Singapore-Johore Express is also another cheap way to get into Johor, travelling more or less the same route as Bus 170 but less labourous...

All about Singapore's taxis

by xuessium

There are 7 taxi companies in Singapore though it essentially boils down to one dominant player (Comfort-Citycab-Yellow Top merger), one medium size player (SMRT) and 3 small ones (Trans-cab, SMART cab & Premier silver cab). Heavily regulated by the government, all cabs starts at a fare of S$2.50 and then 10 cents is added every 210m for the first 10kms and 10 cents is added for every 175m after 10kms thereafter. Taxis also charged a varieties of surcharges - peak hour surcharges at S$2, midnight surcharges on a tier basis, central business district surcharges (S$1), public holiday surcharges (S$1) and airport peak hour surcharges (S$5).Generally, it will cost about S$15 to travel from the airport at the Eastern end of Singapore into the City which is at the Central Southern part of the island.NUMBERS TO CALL FOR TAXIS (Booking charges of S$2.50 non-peak-S$4 peak applies):Comfort-Yellow...
