EZ-Link Card for MRT and Bus

by yipsufen

If you plan on using MRT or buses while you are in town, take the opportunity to buy an EZ-Link card for SGD 15 (with SGD 7 value, SGD 5 non-refundable & SGD 3 refundable) from the MRT station. This card can be used on all buses and MRT rides during your stay. When you leave, just cash in the remaining value at any MRT station.Just flash your card at the autogate, it's so easy and speedy to use.

Taxis are air-conditioned and can be flagged down 24 hours a day on most roads and at taxi stands outside most shopping centres and hotels. Fare starts from SGD2.40 for the first 1km but different taxi companies have different fare structures. Also take note of the surcharges listed below:-Changi Airport SGD5 (5pm - midnight), SGD3 (other times)Singapore Expo SGD2Central Business District SGD1 (MOn - Fri, 5pm - 8pm)Peak Hour SGD1 (Mon - Sat, 7:30am - 9:30am, 5pm - 8pm)Midnight 50% of the fare (midnight - 6am)Public Holidays SGD1 on the eve and dayElectronic Road Pricing (ERP) Charge is displayed on in-vehicle unitHailing taxi in Changi Airport is very convenient and efficient. There's a taxi attendant to serve you.

Travel Around Singapore

by northernbaldy

Public transport is very quick, efficient and inexpensive - buying an EzLink card from the MRT stations is the easiest way to get around - flash the EzLink card on the readers when getting on and off trains and buses and your fare is automatically deducted from the card (some buses even have TVs showing local shows & the news).Taxis are inexpensive too and as a result recognised as truly being part of the public transport system. There are so many taxis, it is easy to flag one down on the street but if you do wish to book a taxi, Comfort Taxis have by far the biggest fleet (Tel. +65 6552 1111). Singapore really isn't very big, so travel by taxi really is feasible if you don't feel confident travelling by public transport.Passing through the airport is very quick. I believe that there's a policy that arriving passengers should be in and out of the airport with their baggage within 30mins....

Taking a coach from Singapore to Malaysia

by victorwkf

If you wish to take a coach from Singapore to Malaysia to visit the various attractions there, my recommendation will be the Five Stars Tours Pte Ltd, which I have used a few times (e.g. to Genting Highlands, Cameron Highlands) and find them to be very good. Anyway, this company is one of the most experienced in Malaysia coach trips and has a few offices in Singapore. You can visit their website below for more information.

Singapore MRT - Mass Rapid Transportation

by ant1606

Singapore has a very efficient public transportaation system. Main people-mover is the MRT with its main 3 lines. The EW (East-West) line has a branch conveniently connecting with Changi airport.Clean, efficient, safe and air-conditioned, MRT is a fantastic way to go around town.

Best Way to Get Around

by Donna_in_India

The MRT system is the best way to get around Singapore. Inexpensive, Easy, & Fast the trains/subways are modern and air conditioned. You never have to wait long for a train. One note: There are three main lines and there may be a long walk when changing lines.

Around the city

by Pomska

Singapore has a very clean and efficient underground system. All parts of the island are accessible by the MRT (the underground rail network) or a bus. The fares are reasonable. If you want to travel without a big crowd of people, you should avoid the rush hours (8-9.30am and 5-7pm).Best way to explore the city centre is definitely by foot.

To Singapore

by Pomska

It takes about 13 to 14 hours to fly from Helsinki, Finland to Singapore (via Bangkok). The Changi airport has two terminals which are connected by the Skytrain monorail (modern, very efficient, quick and air-conditioned). It's easy to use and free of charge. The Changi airport is situated at the far eastern end of Singapore, 16 km from the city centre. Check the possibilities to shop tax free goodies at the airport. You can pick up one of the free maps and weekly "What's On" guides from the airport. Take a taxi, a bus or MTR to the centre. The journey doesn't take a long because the airport is so close to the city (the whole country is so small!). The bus to the centre departure points at the basements of both terminals are well signposted. Remember to take the right amount of money because the driver won't give a change. Taxis from the airport levy a SGD 3 surcharge on top of thefare. A...

Limousine Service

by Scarlie

There is a limousine service (which is actually leather-seated Mercedeses) that will take you anywhere on the island for a flat fee of 35S$ (regardless of distance, I'm told).I have used it only once from the airport to downtown. It's a nicer service that the others, and the chauffer didn't bother with questions (I was thankful after 18 hours trip).
