AIRPORT

by Scarlie

You can get a cab to the airport (see tips for taxis), and there is an additional charge of 5S$ to enter the airport. The price from downtown (Orchard) to the airport is about 20S$ all inclusive. You can also get a bus for about $S.

TAXI

by Scarlie

With the insane regulation of car ownership, it's a surprise that Singapore is full of Taxis. There are many different companies - SMRT, Comfort, Premier, City Cab, Yellow Top, but the prices are pretty much uniform. You can flag a cab pretty much anywhere any timel; the initial charge is 2.40S$.Warning: Contrary to logic, there is a charge of booking in advance. 3S$ for up to 20 mins, and S$5 for longer advance, which I thought was a bit hefty. There are some additional charges for the using the highway -- ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) toll points - which vary from 10c to 2S$ depending on place and time of day. At any rate this comes in the total bill, and you can always get a receipt.I haven't noticed the usual tendency of taxi drivers to ignore the shortest possible route. Some even ask which way you want, meaning highway (more expensive) or not (longer). Here are some numbers as of...

Budget Flying...

by THLIN

Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur are all hubs for budgeted airlines. You can chose one of them to be your base travelling in South East Asia area. JetStar Asia, Valuair, Tiger Airways are Singaporean carriers. They fly north to Ximen, Chengdu in China; East to my city Taipei; South to Perth in Australia; west to Padang in Indonesia. It's cheap and with good quality.Singapore-Bangkok is supposed to be the busiest route in South East Asia, more than 10 airlines flying between these two cities. Sometimes round trips including taxe, it cost you only SGD91(about USD60). Pay more attention, you will have the best deal.I prefer JetStar Asia.

Onward Bound to Hat Yai & Beyond, Thailand

by xuessium

This is for rough edge travellers. I have never done this. There are coaches to be caught from Ban San Street Bus Terminal (nearest MRT: Bugis) where you can travel from Singapore to Hat Yai (14 hours) and from Hat Yai to other parts of Thailand (Surat Thani (18 hours), Krabi (18 hours), Koh Phangan (22 hours), Koh Samui (20 hours), Phuket (21 hours) & Bangkok (27 hours)). Ferry tickets whenever needed are inclusive. The main players here are 707, Farmosa and T&L.I believed from Golden Mile Complex aka Little Thailand, Grassland and other coaches also leaves Singapore for Hat Yai.

MRT and SMRT

by GK2005

Singapore's transportation network is without a doubt one of the best in the world. It works on a system called the EZLink which is basically a card that has stored value in it. You can purchase this card on any major metro bus/train station and the initial value is $7. You can then add in multiples of $10 when the value diminishes and use them in any bus/train in Singapore to get around. The card reader in the buses and train stations reads the entry point and the fare is deducted at the exit point based on the distance. The buses in Singapore have only drivers and so its imperative you have the correct change when you board the bus if you dont have an EZLink Card. The buses and trains run to every nook and corner of Singapore and so you can easily find your way around. Everything is marked very well in English here and so travel within Singapore is a breeze. Buses run on special lanes...

Luxury Buses to Kuala Lumpur and Beyond

by cochinjew

From Golden Mile Complex there are frequent buses to Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. These buses which are Malaysian offer true luxury in bus travel. leather seats, comparable to first class seats on airplanes, reclining, personal video sets. and also attendants ( in our bus a young malaysian indian gay guy ) to serve snacks. One or two stops and within five hours you are in KL, they let you off near the golden triangle of KL

MRT metro subway to town

by cochinjew

There is a subway station at the Changi Airport and it opens at 6 am. If you have arrived at an ungodly hour and have waited a couple of hours, you could go into town on MRT. Also to Lavender station which is near the golden mile complex to catch the buses to Kuala Lumpur

MRT & Cabs

by SLilaRamachandran

Its easy to get around Singapre. The MRT is excellent. But if you need to get around in a hurry I'd recommend the Cabs. Its reasonably priced and the cab drivers are friendly and very helpful. Though I must add, getting a cab after 10pm can be very difficult. There are long queues outside most Malls and Restaurants. Most people call (telephone) a cab to pick them up. Its costs extra to do that. Also if you are a tourist and dont have a local mobile phone it can be difficult to reach a cab company.
